AutoCAD 2026 crashing issue

I recently installed 2026 and I am having problems with it crashing when opening a drawing. I also have 2024 on my machine and it works and opens with no problem. I have checked and everything is up to date with 2026. It doesn't seem to matter if I open it from windows explorer or directly through Autocad.

Perhaps instead of using the Open command try the Recoverall command

Hi @JoeRiceMN, can you try to open AutoCAD as admin then open the file?

If it works, something with the installation or permission was messed up.
If not, try updating the latest drivers for your graphics driver.

@JoeRiceMN Did you try to remove and reinstall 2026 yet? This time avoid migrating any 2024 content to it until it's working well.

Hi @JoeRiceMN, Did you submit a crash report when the crash occurred? If so, please feel free to send me the email associated with your account, and I will review the crash report data on our end to see if there is any useful information there. In the meantime, if you would like to continue troubleshooting, there is a troubleshooting guide in this article that will walk you through the next steps: AutoCAD crashes or freezes when saving, closing, or plotting a drawing.
Let me know if you have any questions about this, otherwise, I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi @JoeRiceMN , Looking at your crash reports, some of them appear to be related to a known issue that the development team is aware of and working on. Are you experiencing the issue in one file or any file you try to open?

Hi @JoeRiceMN, Checking in here, is this issue occurring on one/a couple of files or all files? Thanks.

Hi Catherine, it is not every drawing every time but it seems to be random. My other associate is not having the issue nor are any of the other architects who work for this client.

How about saving the drawing into a lower dwg format? Just like dwg 2010 or below.

What is unique about those files or those instances? Unless we all can repeat what you see, there is not likely to be a universal fix.

It could be something like who created the drawing before you accessed it, or where the file is stored, or how at that moment you accessed it (think VPN or online storage), or while you had a dozen other DWG files open, or at first start of the program, or at the end of a long day of one session being open, or a file that is actually from a vertical variant like C3D or Plant3D etc.

@JoeRiceMN The behavior you are describing, with the crashes being inconsistent across files and users, is consistent with the information I have heard about the issue your crashes are associated with. The development team is aware of the issue and is actively working to resolve it. As far as I am aware, this issue is not happening in AutoCAD 2025. Can you try installing AutoCAD 2025 and let me know if the issue persists there as well? If you do experience any crashes in AutoCAD 2025, please let me know and submit the crash reports.

Hi Catherine, I was finally able to download 2025 and I do not seem to have the crashing issue. I am forced to use 2026 due to our client and some of their customizations. I still have the crashing issues in 2026 before even installing these customizations. Other architectural firms and even my coworker are running 2026 fine. Seems like I am the only one.

You are not the only one. I have to constantly recover drawings to open them. I save and close them and then it crashes if I try to open it again. Going to downgrade to 2025 I guess or try to clean install.

I am running 2026 Architecture and this release is the worst release in many years!  I have crashes daily and the settings randomly change without my input.  We all need to get a rebate on subscription due to POOR performance.  T

his is the worst release probably of all time!

Here are the ways to open a support case with Autodesk if you are struggling so much (and on subscription) to seek out Autodesk Support's help:
