The locking up of the text editor causes 2023 to freeze and crash. Any ideas?

Have you installed the 2023.1.1 Update yet? ABOUT command will confirm what you have installed. If not, get it from your Autodesk Account Page here https://manage.autodesk.com/cep/#products-services/updates
Restart your PC afterwards.

If that did not help... Set GFXDX12 variable to 0 (that's a zero) then restart AutoCAD: reverting to DirectX11 may help.

Are you using the Internal Editor, or something else? Find out, the default as listed in HELP is the way to go.

Also consider starting GRAPHICSCONFIG command then changing the 2D Display Settings pulldown from "advanced mode" to one of the other choices.

If all else fails, start a support ticket through your subscription portal as explained here https://knowledge.autodesk.com/customer-service/account-management/users-software/support-options#:~....

Still no solution. Waiting for call at 8:30 Pacific tonight, 11.1.2022, and it is 9:30. What a pathetic company this is.
