Autocad 2020 PDF printer font handling

Autocad PDF printers.. Autocad 2020

Seems that no matter what setting I have for the "Font Handling" options the fonts are always embedded in the PDF..

I want to convert the text to geometry to send to a vendor that does not have our font...

Yet when I have the setting as follows..

PDF Fonts.PNG

I still get embedded fonts..

FontsEmbedded.PNG

IMHO it's best to use a free 3rd party Windows based PDF driver if you need that ability 100% of the time with TTF fonts, or switch to SHX fonts (and remember to turn off PDFSHX variable).

Hi @mcgyvr,

Thank you for including the screen shots in your description. I found the following statement that indicates the text may still be identifiable in the PDF from the PDF Options Dialog Box article:

Even when you convert text to geometry, you can locate the text in the PDF viewer using Search.

That being said, I am seeing the same as you are when I create a PDF with the same settings. Let me reach out to the Product Team for more information on this, and I will let you know what I learn.

All the best,

@pendean  Oh yes... I'm aware... I've been recommending people completely ignore Autodesks PDF offerings/tools for years now as they have proven to be inferior.. For some reason I just want to give them another chance this week as I'm working from home and just hadn't downloaded cutepdf or other 3rd party solutions yet so I gave them one more try... 😉

If I don't get an acceptable answer real quick I will go right back to ignoring their PDF offerings/tools again..

@cheryl.buck  Thanks for looking into that.. It just seems to be broken now or I'm not standing on the right foot and pulling on the right ear lobe..

While I see that note you are referring too I really don't think its doing what it should be doing as the fonts are still referenced/embedded in the new pdf..

@cheryl.buck It's been "broken" for quite a few versions now, doesn't work as the option implies (copy-out statement caveat not withstanding of course) LOL

Hi @mcgyvr,

Thank you for your patience and for posting. I did get a response that the fonts would need to be included in the PDF in order for them to be searchable, but I also see that the text does still seem to be behaving as text.

I have logged this with the development team for further investigation. Please do not hesitate to reply to this thread with any additional questions you may have in regard to this issue or any message that you want me to share with development that we haven’t already discussed.

You are also welcome to contact the product team directly. If you have additional comments specific to the software or its functionality for future consideration, please use the Product Feedback page.

Another great option is to participate in the AutoCAD Customer Council. This is an opportunity for our customers to partner with the AutoCAD development team to improve future releases of AutoCAD by giving continuous feedback on ideas, designs, and early builds.
In order to get involved email autocad.beta@autodesk.com or autocad.lt.council@autodesk.com

@cheryl.buck  Thanks for partly confirming the functionality is "broken/buggy".

I will go back to using 3rd party tools that just work  😞
