AutoCAD 2019 stops responding and later freezes the entire system

While working, or sometimes after resuming the work in AutoCad, it freezes completely. It Does not respond at all and When I try 'end task' it using Task manager the whole laptop freezes. I cannot do anything that time but to force switch off the system using the power button.

Some Points:
1. My graphics (and other) drivers are fully updated.

2. Windows is up-to-date.

3. I have the latest AutoCAD 2019 with latest updates.

4. I tried installing AutoCAD 2018 but it caused the same problem.

5. Occurrence of this problem is completely irregular, sometimes just after a few minutes into the AutoCad and sometimes it doesn't even occur.

My system specifications:

System: ASUS ROG Strix GL553VE

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700HQ CPU @ 2.80GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.8GHz

Operating system: Windows 10 Home Single Language 64-bit (10.0, Build 17134)

Memory: Dual Channel 16 GB RAM

Storage: 128 GB SSD+ 1TB HDD

Graphic Card: GTX 1050 Ti (notebook)

VRAM: 4GB

Ensure that your %temp% folder is relatively clean. Log out of Windows, and have someone else (or yourself) log in using a new (different) Windows account. Repeat your tests. Same thing?

Hi @Anonymous,

Since you have to do a re-boot to kill this activity, I suspect that this might actually be a system issue instead of an AutoCAD one.  Since it only shows up in AutoCAD I suspect you are taxing your graphics card to a point of failure.  Can you share an NFO file with me so I can see how your system is configured?

I usually clean my C drive, temp folders and run antivirus to keep my system clean and secure. For the purpose of logging in with other account, i havent tried that but I guess since formatting my laptop couldnt solve this issue, this also wouldnt work. Anyway i will try doing this and let you know the results, Thanks.

Yes I'm completely sure this issue is related to system rather than AutoCAD because it occurs in both 2018 and 2019 and wasn't there before. But this only occurs with AutoCAD and no other software. Being a gaming laptop also I'm able to play every game normally and with no problem or issue. Please let me know your email ID so that I can send you the nfo file. Thank you.

Hi @Anonymous

Please take a screen capture of your graphicsconfig window in AutoCAD 2019. I would like to verify that the Nvidia card is being used.  It does appear to have a current driver.  The Intel graphics however has a newer version available here.

I suggest also temporarily removing the following applications:

Ccleaner

Malwarebytes

It appears that you might have cleared your Windows error logs as there is almost nothing in the log and nothing related to AutoCAD.  Can you check your Windows Event Viewer under Applications to see what errors appear?

Thank you for your reply.
I have attached the screenshot of my graphicconfig setting here. Im sure that my AutoCAD uses my dedicated graphics card.
The Intel graphics driver which you recommended I have downloaded but upon installing it shows that it isnt compatible with my version. I have attached its screenshot too.

Okay. I will remove Ccleaner and Malwarebytes to see if it works.

For Error log, actually as i told, AutoCAD shows no errors whatsoever. It simple freezes and later when tring to end via task manager it freezes the entire system.

Hi @Anonymous

Where/when do you see the error message? Can you send me the NFO so I can take a peek at how your system is configured?  Did removing the anti-malware make any difference?

First of all, there is no error message.
AutoCAD Simply wouldn't respond. (But it also wouldn't say 'Stop Responding')
I have captured a video using my mobile and below is the link for that. Please have a look and see the actual problem.

Also, I removed CCleaner and Malwarebytes but it didnt do any good.

Also, This problem is absolutely random.
Day before yesterday I did an intensive AutoCAD job along with SketchUp at the same time and I got no issue. I thought the problem was solved by removing those anti malware softwares. But the very next day i found the problem again.

  1. Disable WiFi temporarily.
  2. Shut down the PC
  3. Unplug the network cable
  4. Reboot.
  5. Test again, with NO network connections enabled.
  6. Any different?

Sorry for misinterpreting.
There was some error while installing the new Intel driver. Although I have installed it now and following is the nfo file.

The removal of anti malware softwares havent been of any use. Ill work in AutoCAD and see if this latest Intel software can fix the issue.
Will reply after testing AutoCAD for one day. Thanks.

Hi @Anonymous,

I am wondering how this is progressing. Did you get all the drivers up to date?

If you log on as a new user does this behavior persist? Or have you considered a RESET Settings to default?

Yes. All my drivers are up to date.
I tried logging as new user, resetting all the things to default and reinstalling AutoCAD but the issue still persists. Please help.

Hi @Anonymous,

Looking at the new NFO, I see WSCommCntr4.exe / ntdll.dll errors.  This link for ntdll.dll indicates how you can start AutoCAD with Hardware Acceleration turned off. I suggest trying that step.

You might very well have a bad graphics card but you can still explore different drivers. The NFO shows that you still have the OEM version of the drivers installed and not the ones from Intel or Nvidia.

Hi john.vellek
Im pretty sure that I run my AutoCAD with Hardware Acceleration ON.
For graphics card, I update it very often (GeForce as well as drivers) and Im able to play games very normally. There has been no issue whatsoever while playing games or using other softwares. But still the problem persists on AUtoCAD. It sometimes gets stuck while saving, while drafting, while coming back to autocad after a hault and this stucks the entire laptop.
Do you still believe the problem is with my system and not AutoCAD?
Will installing lower version like 2016 fix this issue?

HI @Anonymous,

I suggested running AutoCAD with Hardware Acceleration turned off to see if it helps with the problems you are experiencing.

Are  you seeing all these problems with specific drawings or even on new ones?

This is a problem of autocad it happened the same to me I actually had to buy a new laptop because the last one stayed froze, and would work again because it kept getting frozen even with no autocad and it was a brand new gaming laptop. the new one told me fatal error and froze and it only responds again by rebooting the system, I recommend you trying the 2017 version that one never brought me any problems. With my first laptop and it was a very cheap one.
