AutoCAD 2019 displaying incorrectly - Need to zoom in very far to see anything

Hello all,

My apologies in advance for my lack of technical AutoCAD terms, I am very new to the program and have only been studying it for the past 2 weeks at school.

I have an assignment in AutoCAD 2019 that requires me to do a simple drawing in inches.  When I put a line down for, say, 10 inch length, I need to zoom in very, very much in order to see the line.  I have to zoom in so much that when I re-open the drawing, it appears as a little dot.

I also need to use different line types in this drawing (HIDDEN and CENTER), but because I need to zoom in so much, the line types aren't displaying.. they're just displaying as solid lines.  It almost seems that the length of the line needs to be over 50 or so inches before the linetype displays.

The drawing displays correctly if I press the LAYOUT1 tab in the lower left hand corner.

The computers at school, or my friends computer don't seem to have this problem.  I've tried resetting AutoCAD to the factory defaults, which didn't do much.

I would appreciate help in this matter, please let me know whatever other information you need.

Hello @Anonymous,

Try using Zoom Extents to zoom the current drawing to the extents of the selected source drawings Use Zoom Extents to zoom the current drawing to the extents of the selected source drawings.

Hi

I'm not sure that get you point. But I'm try to help.

You can try REGEN. The lintype should be display right then.

The reason of the line with linetype appear to be "solid line"(continuous line) is that REGEN automatically happens when zoom out to a certain level that the line with linetype is indistinguishable with that with continuous linetype.( You can notice the "Regenerating model." in the text window).

So when you zoom in back. You have to manually REGEN the drawing to display the linetype.

Here is the link about the REGEN command.

Hope it can help you.

Type in the command "ZOOMFACTOR" and set it to  100 which would make the zooming faster. When you re-open the drawing it will display the same as it was when you saved and closed the drawing.

For this select the line and open up the properties (shortcut: ctrl+1 ) and alter the linetype scale to make the Line type to be visible.
