I have my drawing autosave option set to save every 30 minutes, but it saves every time I make even the slightest change to the drawing.  Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere?  It really inhibits my ability to do anything because it interrupts my commands so it can save the change.

Hi @twcadmin,

I see that you are visiting as a new member to the AutoCAD forum. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

This indeed sounds like a really annoying behavior. Of course, you should try disabling Automatic Save temporarily to see if the behavior continues.

This is the way my Automatic Save settings look like (the default setting). Can you try returning yours to default to see if it changes the behavior?

Lastly, you might consider a Reset Settings to Default.

Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post solves your issue or answers your question.

Here are a few of the troubleshooting steps I've performed so far:

  1) Disabled AutoSave

  2) waited approx. 5 minutes, no AutoSave was performed, attempted to edit drawing, no immediate attempt to AutoSave performed.

  3) Re-Enabled AutoSave

  4) Waited approx. 30 seconds and AutoSave began.  Attempted additional edits to the drawing and AutoSave interrupted.

As you can see, It's definitely linked to the AutoSave function.  And that function is set to only AutoSave after 30 minutes.

p.s. Thanks for the welcome, Long time forum user, first time poster.  🙂

Does your file contain Proxy Objects?
Is it from a vertical version of AutoCAD like Civil3D or MEP or ARCH, but you are using plain AutoCAD or a different variant?

Test out my theory if you have the time:
- AUDIT command, answer yes, let it fix what it finds. QSAVE.
- Repeat for each XREF in the file. QSAVE each and reload them.
- PURGE your file, ensure you have "nested items" and "orphan data" boxes checked.
- Use -PURGE command (there is a dash in the name), select REGAPPS option, purge everything offered (answer yes when prompted).
- Repeat for each XREF in the file, QSAVE each and reload them.
- In OPTIONS command, open/save tab, uncheck the two "maintain blah blah" boxes under the file format pulldown. Also ensure your files are all saving to 2013dwg format (including all xrefs, qsave and reload them after change).
- QSAVE. Close and restart AutoCAD.

Still have the issue with autosave?

Open your acad20XX.lsp and acad20xxdoc.lsp(20XX is your AutoCAD version), Check there are comments that similar to (setvar 'savetime 5) contents.

If it recorded, Delete it.

But, indiscreet edit acad.lsp can cause errors, So Get a new acad.lsp, and then overwrite it.

Also, If you work with using lisp, The lisp file can change savetime.

I will absolutely follow up as soon as I have had an opportunity to test these prospective solutions.  Unfortunately the user that has brought the issue to me hasn't been available all day to review and test.  Thank you all for your assistance in resolving this issue.
