AutoCAD 2016 Zoom Extents

Any drawing file that I have an external reference in and its x-clipped, when I zoom extent it does not honor the x-clipped boundry that was set.  The zoom extent command zooms out to the full reference rather than the clipped. Can anyone provide a solution?

This was posted a long time ago by autodesk:

1. Close the parent drawing.
2. Open the child drawing, and set the INDEXCTL system variable to 2
or 3 to ensure that a spatial index is saved with the drawing.
3. Save and close the child drawing.
4. Open the parent drawing and see if the extents now calculates
properly. If the problem still occurs, you may need to recreate the
clipping boundary, as follows:

1. Use Xclip Delete to remove the clipping boundary in the parent
drawing.
2. Save, close, and reopen the parent drawing.
3. Use Xclip again to recreate the clipping boundary.

To avoid the problem in future drawings, be sure to set INDEXCTL to 2
or 3 in all drawings that you're likely to use as attached external
references.

Note that this workaround does not address the cases where a spline,
ellipse, or 3D solid falls on the Xclip boundary. For the purposes of
calculating the extents, AutoCAD treats such objects as if the whole
object were visible, rather than just the part of the object that lies
within the boundary.

For plotting, an easy workaround is to use Limits instead of Extents.
Set the drawing limits to the corners of the xclip border and then
plot limits.

No it didnt work.  It seems AutoCAD picks up some other type of graphic that doesnt visualy show but it affects the zoom extent limit .

Autodesk Helpdesk could reproduce the problem, & have listed it as a known issue, they are working on a fix for this problem

In my experience, I've noticed that if you have "WIPEOUTS" on any of the XREF's that isnt specifically on the Wipeout layer or whatever layer you call it then the XCLIP boundary will be ingored since the wipeout is a "frame".

I have this issue and I have the indexctl setup correctly and its still not working porperly dont know what else to try...

Using

AutoDesk Autocad 2016

Experience:

R14

CAD 2008 through 2016

Thanks

UPDATE

Did some more investigating and found that ELLIPSES are the cause of the XCLIP boundary not working correctly.

This is for AutoDesk Autocad 2016, not 2015.

Thanks,

Matt

I'm not sure on the solution as for the xclip boundary.... The solution for Ellipses is offset and delete which makes them splines.

2016 seems to have bugs for the Zoom Extents when you have an XCLIP on references.

You would think that 2016 would act the same as 2015 but it doesnt. Unless theres some Varible that i'm unaware of. I know 2016 offers the XREFOVERRIDE varible but I'm not even using that.

Thanks,

Matt

No, I have not heard anything yet

This time Autodesk is really behind, they have not issued their SP1 yet

Are we assuming this is a fix we know for a fact will be in SP1? And how do we know this?

I don't know, but I do not think that Zoom will be part of SP1

So I recently uninstalled everything autocad related. Started 2016 fresh and I didnt migrate any previouse settings since they were all uninstalled. I opened up a drawing and the zoom extents wasn't working then I set the indexctl to "2" in the drawing I was in and the zoom extents started working again. Since then its been working regardless of setting the indexctl. It must be a glitch or something.

I dont understand CAD sometimes.   Smiley Frustrated

Thanks,

So any word on if or when this will be fixed? Uninstalling our previous (and stable) 2015 version of cad is not really an option, and having to uninstall and reinstall 2016 for our entire office isn't going to happen either. It would be nice if this known bug could just be fixed. Thanks.

Do you have Service Pack 1 installed?

Thanks

yes, but SP1 does not fix zoom extend problem, just uncheck high quality ..... will take care of the problem

Yes, 1 and 2. Autodesk already confirmed the fix wasn't part of the sp1 update anyways though.

Going into 3dconfig and turning off high quality geometry didn't work either.

And before anyone asks, my indexctl is and has been set to 3 for both the refrences and in my main drawing files.
