Autocad 2016 with windows 10 x64 not printing on HP DESIGNJET 500 42

Hi

I was forced to upgrade to windows 10 the drivers of my plotter are good on windows 10 (-2) but autocad 2016 says the drivers are not available and could not print

Please help how to fix this problem

You need to uninstall the drivers on your PC first, then install new ones: restarting your PC and unplugging from your network (or turning off the plotter and the plotter-PC) is the better way to start the process for most.

Try coping the install files to your local computer instead of a network location. I had the same problem and this fixed it.

Also, disable anti-virus temporarily as the real-time scanner can cause issues.

I'm with you screenshot-for-screenshot, Piat-Arch.  I even did extra restarts and started up with driver signing enforcement disabled before doing the right-click >> Install.  I verified that no HP Designjet 500 drivers remained in the Print Server Properties >> Drivers tab window after restarting and before doing the reinstall.  I'm still left with driver version 6.07.  I tried going to Device Manager and doing the right-click >> update drivers thing there.  No cigar.

I've spent quite a few hours over the past couple years trying to get the HP Designjet 500 to print from Windows 10 (and before that 8).  It just works (ahem) with MacOS Sierra and all Mac OS Xs before that, but my MacBook Air got wet, bit the bag and stepped out the door, so now I really do need to print from Windows.  This thread makes me almost think it's possible.  So close!  I just need that darned 8.whatever driver.  How the heck do I get it?

Any more advice?

Hi Steve

I downloaded the driver from the following link. When you click on your language and operating system, just wait for a while and the next page will open showing you to download the driver. Install and hey presto.

Thank you for the reply, Derryck.  Seriously. 

I believe that's the same driver I've been trying.  I downloaded again from your link, however.  Here's what I'm seeing:

• I am using 64-bit Windows 10.
• I first delete all drivers/packages using the command line thing (Print Server Properties/Drivers tab).
• I restart.
• I verify all drivers/packages gone using Print Server Properties/Drivers tab again.
• I unzip the downloaded driver file.
• I right-click the dsgj510.inf file and select "Install". 
• A little dialog box appears saying the operation completed successfully.
• However, no new item appears in Print Server Properties/Drivers tab.
• When I plug in the printer, which is a c7770b, by the way, it installs and appears on the Devices and Printers Control Panel as something like (not at location now--will correct this later if necessary) Designjet 500 42 by HP.  I suspect it is not using the newly downloaded driver.  When I right-click the printer and look at Printer Properties >> About tab, it says version 6.07.
• Since I suspect the right-click >> Install isn't installing the driver, I've tried installing the driver within Print Server Properties/Drivers tab using the Add button and the "Have Disk" button.  This does put a driver in that list called "HP Designjet 500 24+HPGL2 Card", but it doesn't work for the printer.  Why it says 24 when I have a 42-inch 500 I don't know.

Hi Steve

I installed it by the Add method within the printer setup (like your second
try). If I remember correctly I did not do the right click thing though
before hand. I simply deleted the existing printer, plugged in the plotter,
let it install, then updated the driver with the Add/Have disk thing. In
terms of your plotter c7770b, I could not find drivers from HP for that (I
do not trust other driver web sites).

I think maybe the c7770b, which is, I believe, the older of two versions of the Designjet 500 42, is just too old.  The HP site takes me to a page when I search for drivers with that model number, but I get the problems I've described. 

I tried updating the firmware.  Everything works until the final step, and it just says it failed to communicate with the printer. 

"HP Designjet 500 42 by HP" driver seems unwilling to upgrade beyond driver v6.07, data file version v2.1.

The darn thing is old--first manufactured in 2000.  It may be time to take it out back and shoot it.

Actually, I scavenged a old iMac yesterday, and I suspect that will work flawlessly with the "obsolete" printer.  I darn near know it will, actually, because I used to have an iMac of the same generation/OS, and it "just worked". 

Actually, I've NEVER gotten this thing to print in Windows.  There's probably some way to edit some file and make Windows think it's a slightly newer model, but one can only waste so many thousands of hours tilting at a given windmill.

Wow!  Thank you SO much.  I don't care how old this post it, I've been searching for the answer to why my HP Designjet 500 wouldn't print for months.  It turns out I had two problems, and Windows 10 wasn't either of them like I thought it was (I've had this problem since the last big update... which was just a coincidence).

First, I feel dumb because Windows 10 wasn't recognizing my computer because of a bad USB cable.  Dumb me. I scoffed at the troubleshooters when they said "check your cable."  But they were right.  Windows 10 WILL recognize an 8 - 10 year old Designjet 500 and automatically load the latest driver for you in about 10 seconds... once your cable is good.

Second, without your help and teaching me about "printui /s /t2," I would never have been able to clear all the other old drivers and leftovers that still caused errors after replacing the cable.  So I unplugged the printer, used your method to clear all the old drivers, plugged it back in and within moments Windows 10 recognized it, loaded the needed software and I was up and running.

Hi there:  I have been searching for the cure for my Designjet 500 plus.  Trying all kinds of things that were suggested, I finally tried the last one I read about.  Upgrade the driver to the latest issue, in my case I installed a HP T520 and it works like a charm.  I deleted the old plotter, downloaded the new driver and installed it.  Turned on the plotter and the system could not find a device, and it gave me the option of entering the wireless information or clicking on the box below, which I did.  Opened AutoCad 2016 and entered Plot and it came up with my Designjet 500 plus all on it's own.

I was getting concerned that I would have to buy another plotter.

Hi there: I am running Windows 10, did have to upgrade my OS due to
support issues. I did upgrade my driver to 8.01 for the plotter, I think
this may be the key to getting the equipment to work on the newer issues of
AutoCad.

I deleted the old driver and installed the new one. Then deleted the
plotter from the list in Devices and Printers. Unplugged the plotter and
installed the new latest made plotter from HP, in this case was a HP T520.

File will not paste for some reason so I will type out the file name and
you can search for it and download it to your system. If you can get your
version up to the 8.1 then I think you should have success.

File that I loaded into my plotter: HP_DesignJet_T_series_PCL3.exe My
plotter is the DesignJet 500 Plus.
