Autocad 2016 Trial version issue

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello.

I have downloaded a free trial version of AutoCad 2016 on the 6 of July 2015 and on its 15th day it stopped working, when I try to launch the program, a translucent screen appears with options suggesting to buy a full version. It is supposed to be 30 days trial and I was planning tu buy it after this time, but now I feel very dissapointed.

Could you please advise me how to continue using the 30 days trial version as I should still have 15 days left of it.

Thank you

Julia

What changed on your PC in the last few days? Anit-virus, security settings, something. It looks like the pop-up locks up your PC.

I have no idea what background program or routine creates that screen you posted, perhaps java? But, the screen does state you have 15 days left, so the first thing I would try is see if you can actually click that little "x" button in the white space next to the word "Autodesk" and see if that can make the white portion disappear and give you access to the window underneath. Just a reminder though, these forums were created for end users of Autodesk software and most people that post and reply here are not actual Autodesk employees. Every now and then an A'desker will reply - your post hopefully may trigger a reply from one of them.

Hi

Thank you for your reply.

Since I downloaded Autocad 2016 trial nothing changed to the computer. After not being able to launch trial Autocad today due to this translucent screen appearing, ( I tried clicking on the little"x" button, it doesn't let you click on it and anything on this top screen. You can only scroll it up and down and read information in light grey characters about where to purchase Autocad products.) I have uninstalled Autocad and tried to download this trial version again from the Autodesk website, but the same translusent screen offering to buy a full version appears even on the web page. It does offer to select an Autodesk store which I don't see being connected to any background program or routine.

I would highly appreciate if there could be a solution as I need these 15 days to finish a project and it feels very disappointing from Autocad to provide 30 days trial from which only 15 are real. I would appreciate knowing it in advance and plan my work accordingly. Alternatively could it be possible to contact the technical service directly by phone in order to find a solution?

I appreciate your help.

Kind regards

Julia

one route to take while awaiting "free" support (pun intended and what you receive may not be what you feel you deserve - I didn't make the rules here hehe) is there have been alot of java and adobe flash updates recently that address some serious security concerns. I would look into making sure both of those "apps" are updated - to me the screenshots you are providing appear to show that "what ever app" creates and populates that specific window is having trouble creating the window itself - suggesting that app is broken and needs updating. And if that is the case, this isn't Autodesk's problem. I certainly hope you can understand that. I am not trying to say this isn't an Autodesk problem, just suggesting the underlying cause may not be Autodesk's problem.

you appear to have a problem on your PC, not related to AutoCAD. Do you have a netowrk mnager to contact? See your graphic, can you not do this either?

I think that little "X" indicates a broken link to an image, not a Close button.

I tend to agree with @ampster40.  The "app" is waiting for a response, but something is screwing up its display so a "continue" button does not appear.

It may be possible to "dismiss" the "app" in Task Manager.  I can't be sure, but it may show up in running processes as "LMU.exe". (But, I suspect that if this "app" doesn't close "normally", AutoCAD will not launch.)

Strongly suggest following ampster's advice.

Unless you've got a legitimate, compoelling business need for Flash, and/or Java,  I'll _strongly_ suggest uninstalling them.  Both are widely exploited malware vectors.  And oracle and adobe both seem quite happy with that situation.  After all, everytime you update either of them you've got a default install that includes crapware from ask and macafee, so they get money for shipping out updates constantly.

Needless to say, their reputation is somewhere below mud.....

"I'll _strongly_ suggest uninstalling them."

Do you know whether or not either of these is "required" by the trial license counter/checker "app" in question here?  Will uninstalling either of them resolve the issue or just move the goal post?

"...everytime you update either of them you've got a default install that includes crapware from ask and macafee."

Oh, you noticed that, too? Smiley Wink I love the way the Flash Player installer repeatedly "informs" me that my installation options have changed when I have selected the "notify me" option and it "kindly" changes it to its "recommended" automatic setting. I guess beggar's can't be choosers (at least not without a little extra effort).

Good advice really. But perhaps let your company decide if they want to nix java and flash - after all it's their computer and not yours. I can't imagine the support nightmare I would be in if clients I support just up and uninstall those two apps. The phone would have to be perm attached to the side of my head for weeks on end if they did that. Does anybody know what exactly is used then that creates those msg windows? The AutoCAD application is started and something within the trial versions is generating that msg, and judging by the screenshots the OP is providing, how ever that window is created "on the fly" is going haywire. Something is screwy in that process itself. Granted, I wouldn't want to be presented with such a msg either "buy now, buy now" etc over and over again, but when using free software you are at the mercy of the company providing the free software.
