AutoCAD 2016 sheet set not recognizing sheets

Last night I installed AutoCAD 2016.  When I first printed the three sheets to PDF for the job I'm working on, the first was oriented correctly and the last two were not.  I tried again and it fixed itself.

Now it is happening again, except it will not fix itself.  AutoCAD seems to think the last two sheets are the same as the first because that's how they're named in the PDF, and the Sheet List Table on the first page will not populate itself with the numbers and names of the last two sheets.  The first sheet plots to PDF oriented correctly, and the last two are at -90 degrees (the top of them faces right).

There's another problem -- MLINE text with an angle of -30 for isometric drawings is printing and a slant of +30 making the isometrics look bad.  But first the printing and sheet list!

The sheet set was created in 2015, I am printing with Dwg to PDF.pc3, I am on Windows 7.

I switched to 2016 while busy with a job from greed after reading that clickable callouts worked in 2016.

I couldn't find anything like this when searching the forums.  Has anyone else experienced this and had to revert to 2015?  (I think that might be my only solution!?!)

Thanks,

If you are publishing or printing a sheet set make sure that all the sheet have a page setup that are exactly the same and that the same page setup it set current for all sheets.

Hi @dunnamin,

Have you tried @leothebuilder's suggestion, and did it help you resolve the issue with plotting your sheet set to PDF?

If not, please let us know what happened instead, and I'll be happy to assist you further.

loethebuilder,

I created as usual a dwt file from which all the sheets were automatically generated, but just to make sure I didn't inadvertently change something in the first, I went into all of them, changed them from 'extents' to 'layout', and also changed the source dwt file for the sheet set to the same (for future sheets).  I am sure they are all the same.

This apparently helped, but then I noticed something because the next printing rotated all but the first sheet again.  When I changed every file at once, I printed with all the sheets in this sheet set open (there's only 3 in this one) -- this printed correctly.  The next print there were no sheets in the sheet set open -- this printed wrong (with all but the first rotated incorrectly).

So I test again.  I opened all the sheets and printed -- they were all oriented correctly.  I closed all the sheets and printed -- all but the first sheet were oriented incorrectly.  (I did also notice that when printing with all the sheets open, about one second after dismissing the 'plotting in the background' dialog box, a star appeared next to the name of each sheet indicating it had been changed.)

Normally, I make sure all sheets are closed before printing (so I don't end up clicking 'Publish' and then saying, "Oh no, I didn't save #4 and #12!").  So if this is the problem, it is definately new to 2016.

Oh!  The Sheet List on the first page still will not update to anything but showing the first sheet -- it does not recognize that there are three sheets in the set for some reason.

I will post a new thread about the isometric text going wrong so we are only discussing one thing at one time, but that may cause me to have to revert to 2015 too (which I really do not want to do because I finally have my pdf links back after losing them when moving to 2015!).

Thanks, leothebuilder!

Hi @dunnamin,

I'm sorry to hear this is still occurring for you. I've been trying to reproduce the issue in AutoCAD 2016 here on my system with a standard Sheet Set template, but the sheets always rotate correctly. Here is what I've done:

  • Used a Sheet Creation Template that contains each of my sheet sizes and orientations. I used standard ARCH D and ARCH A sizes, and rotated them by selecting either Portrait or Landscape in the page setup.
  • Created each sheet using the Sheet Creation Template to generate the desired layout configuration.
  • Saved and closed all sheets (with a single blank drawing open, outside of the sheet set).
  • Right-clicked the sheet set name > Publish > Publish to PDF > Save in the desired location.

I tested this multiple times with the same results each time. I also tested this with a single sheet open and all of the sheets open (four total).

I also tried saving separate page setups for each size and orientation, then set them current for each sheet. This also yielded the same results - all sizes and orientations published correctly.

There is likely some setting or override in your page setups that is causing the sheet rotation issue. You may want to create a new page setup from scratch, then apply it to each sheet methodically, and finally test the publish again.

Hi @dunnamin,

Were you able to identify the source or the issue in your page setup? Or have you created a new one, applied it, and tested it by publishing your sheet set?

I certainly appreciate your sticking with me regarding this problem, Victoria.  I have tried changing the way they are printed and saving the .pc3 file, but that has not worked.

Right now, I am dropping back to 2015 to publish my sheets sets.  I could not post a sample set because in addition to the complications and size of a full sheet set, the information is proprietary to the person I am drawing for.  Everything still works fine when I drop back to publishing from 2015.

I do understand how you are helping me to troubleshoot by having me create a sheet set from scratch.  I do need to print existing sheet sets after making redline changes on my current jobs and could simply not update all of those right now even if restarting from scratch solved the problem.

But here's the real biggie.  A Customer Service Representative from Autodesk (another?) contacted me after seeing my post in this forum, and I was able to do a computer sharing thing that is no longer called 'go-to-meeting'.  He thinks he may have found the problem after some research on his computer and my own.  Hopefully I will know if what he found is the problem and also know the solution at the beginning of the week.

For the weekend at least, I draw in 2016 and publish sheet sets in 2015, but as soon as I have something to report, I will do it here!

Thanks Victoria!

Hi @dunnamin,

Thank you for your response. I understand you've been working with another support specialist to resolve some different issues, and also discussed your publish problem with him.

Could you post the following two screenshots to lend some clarity to this issue?

1. For a layout that doesn't plot with the correct orientation, right-click the layout tab, and choose Page Setup Manager...

  • Select the Page Setup and choose Modify...
  • Next to the printer/plotter name, choose Properties.
  • Take a screenshot of the full Device and Document Settings tab.

2. Open a Windows Explorer and navigate to the ACA 2016 plotters folder:

  • C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ACA 2016\enu\Plotters
  • Take a screenshot of this entire folder.

Thanks, Victoria!

I have no ACA folder there.  I have attached the other picture.  The other support specialist may have removed that folder as he is trying to find out if it was the migration from AutoCAD 2015 that caused the problem, because it appeared that my sheet sets were using 2015 print drivers while I was in 2016.

So I don't know if the picture will help right now.  Perhaps I should wait and see if this problem gets fixed while fixing the other problem before we start on this one?

(Oh, also... I only print from Sheet Sets and am using the same setup as I use in ACAD2015.  Currently I am working in 2016 and printing from 2015.)
