What helped me was replacing mc3.dll, in Autocad MEP program with the one in set-up However I am not sure if this is a real fix or not, but it did stabilize my autocad mep

The last news I have is that it appears only the MEP whitelist file has been fixed. The one for ACA has not yet been swapped out with a good one. Also, be sure to reboot the machine, as stated in the article.

For now, shutting off Desktop Analytics is the best bet for ACA users. If you cannot access the program long enough to shut it off, you can switch it off in the registry.

The whitelist.xml is not fixed for MEP same issues & problems but after replacing MC3.dll, at least autocad mep is again stable *Matt Shoai * *Systems Administrator & Plumbing Design Engineer*

The problem whitelist.xml file itself can be fixed, if you really want to leave Desktop Analytics turned on:

  1. Browse to C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\ARCHDESK\2016\{5783F2D7-F004-0409-2102-0060B0CE6BBA}\7.8.106.0\MC3 (replacing ARCHDESK with BLDSYS for AutoCAD MEP)
  2. Open the whitelist.xml file in a text editor
  3. Replace all instances of "RumtimeName" with "RuntimeName" (note the 'n' instead of 'm')

It really does feel like Rum Time after that!

kind of late for that one first they said to delete the file so now the file is gone we can not edit it anymore However Autocad works fine, kind of slow in some areas, but overall is fine & the customer feedback & the other one basically are unrecognizable commands *Matt Shoai * *Systems Administrator & Plumbing Design Engineer*

Provided you apply the reg key and delete or rename the xml file(s) then reboot, it should work ok. Take my batch file, check the paths in %userprofile% are relevant to your product, modify it if additional/different paths are found. Use the logon script for all the PC's if on a School domain to copy the batch file to each pc and execute it as administrator. This will fix the problem for most cases. It is also possible to fix rather than delete the xml file if required. With a little more information I will happily assist in applying the fix. M

I found an answer that worked for my company.

Go to the directory: "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2016"
Rename the file: mc3.dll to mc3.dll.bak

Now go to the directory: "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2016\Setup\en-us\Setup" and copy the file: mc3.dll
to the original directory: "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2016"

This seamed to work for all my users.

I saw other fixes but I could not get on AutoCAD long enough do them before I was locked out. Reboot. GOOD LUCK!!

Thank you all for your patience while we worked to resolve this issue.

The WHITELIST.XML file for both AutoCAD Architecture 2016 and AutoCAD MEP 2016 have been replaced on the Desktop Analytics server, and we've confirmed the following steps on several affected machines throughout the afternoon.

Here are the finalized steps to resolve this error for both AutoCAD Architecture 2016 and AutoCAD MEP 2016. The XML file is in a different location for each program, and the build version folder (the last one before MC3) will differ if you have the service pack installed or not.

To resolve the error:

    • Exit all Autodesk programs.

    • For AutoCAD Architecture 2016:

    • Navigate to this folder: C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\ARCHDESK\2016\{5783F2D7-F004-0409-2102- 0060B0CE6BBA}\7.8.44.0\MC3
    • Delete the file WHITELIST.XML.
    • Reboot the machine.
    • Launch AutoCAD Architecture 2016.
    • Enable Desktop Analytics, if you previously disabled it.
    • The program will download a corrected WHITELIST.XML file.

    • For AutoCAD MEP 2016:
    • Navigate to this folder: C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\BLDSYS\2016\{5783F2D7-F006-0409-2102-0060B0CE6BBA}\7.8.106.0\MC3
    • Delete the file WHITELIST.XML.
    • Reboot the machine.
    • Launch AutoCAD MEP.
    • Enable Desktop Analytics, if you previously disabled it.
    • The program will download a corrected WHITELIST.XML file.

This has also been updated in the public AKN solution (it may take a little while to refresh). Additionally, any customer who sends in an error report after experiencing this crash should now receive a link to the public solution.

Hi Victoria,

We had a couple of instances of this from our customers. In all instances, the offending whitelist.xml file resides in C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\ARCHDESK\2016\{5783F2D7-F004-0409-2102-0060B0CE6BBA}\7.8.106.0\MC3. Renaming or deleting the file resolves the issue.

In ACA 2016, when I get to the point of enabling Desktop Analytics, it doesn't seem to automatically download the replacement Whitelist.xml file (nothing appears in the subfolder where I deleted it from).  Also, we've lost a number of functional editing commands through this whole mess.
