autocad 2016 fatal error when opening file a second time

I have a machine with AutoCad 2016 and am using using CADWorx 2016. I also have a machine that has AutoCAD 2015 and using CADWorx 2015.

For files, but not all files, that have been created on my 2015 machine I can open the file once with 2016, however the next time I open it with 2016 I get "Unhandled Access Violation Reading 0x24e0 Exception at fd5688h" and crashes AutoCAD. I then have to open the file with 2015, run an audit and then it's again fine to open in 2016. Anybody know a fix to this?

Are both versions of AutoCAD on the same machine, or two different machines? Also, what OS are you running?

Have you seen this post:

Do you have CADWorx in your support file search path? Try removing it, then restarting, and see if the error goes away.

I've reinstalled AutoCAD 2016 and CADWorx 2016. It's a new machine so there aren't any legacy files on it and I'm still getting crashes..

I have two machines - one has AutoCAD 2015 and CADWorx 2015 running on Windows 7. The other is AutoCAD 2016 and CADWorx 2016 running on Windows 8. The crashes only occur on the 2016 machine.

Win8.1 updated? Is R2016 and Cadworx2016?

What is unique about the files that do crash vs. the ones that do not? Does RECOVER or RECOVERALL commands fix those problem files?

I've narrowed it down to autocad 2016 crashing when I'm using larger files with multiple Xrefs in it. It operates fine when there are no Xref's or files that one or two Xref's.

So, the file will open one time and if it doesn't crash autoCAD 2016 when I'm working on it then it won't open again in autocad 2016. Either that or I'll get a fatal error during it being open.
