Autocad 2011 Trim /Extend command problem

Hi All,

Please help. Using Autocad 2011 and the Trim/ Extend command is not functioning correctly.

The Trim command  does cut the line but leaves it in segments and does not trim right back to the intended line. Quiet often, but not always, the trimmed line will also `jump` to the nearest end point of another line after trimming.

The Extend command will extend the line but only in short extensions at a time taking many clicks of the mouse  and not all in one `click` as it should.

What is more annoying is that both these faults are intermittent  occuring about 50% of the time.

Desperate -please help.

Thanks

Hi,

First guess:

take care about the option _EDGE for the _TRIM command and make sure that "No extend" is chosen.

If that is not the answer then a drawing might help +:

>> trimmed line will also `jump` to the nearest end point of another line after trimming

What do you mean by "another line" ... it depends which lines (or objects) you selected as cutting edges, if you just pressed <ENTER> when you where asked for selecting the cutting edges then every geometry object is selected to be a cutting edge ... and so you might have to click more often to get the line trimmed back to the edge you like to have it.

>> The Extend command will extend the line but only in short extensions at a time taking many clicks

Same explanation as above.

If you select just one cutting edge (and do not press <ENTER> when asked for cutting edges) then only one mouse click should be necessary.
