AutoCAD 14 stops working when opening a file

This has happened to me a number of times.  But the program will be working fine and then when I go to open a different drawing the drop down menus go blank (meaning it won't show any folder and you can't even get it to drop down and the folder you are in disappears from the heading).   I then can't use the program for days and then it will start working again.  What is going on and how do I fix this.

Hi Rachel68D7X, Have you check your computer Specification for AutoCAD 2014 System Requirement? Otherwise try to install the AutoCAD 2014 Service Pack 1.

what changes after "days"? Do you turn off your PC? Remember to log into your network or the internet? Something else happens?

Software has no moving parts, so explain in more detail please.

Thank you all for trying to help but I got the issue resolved.  As crazy as it seems all I had to do was unplug my tablet from the computer.
