Author Attribute

Hello! I am creating a title block that includes prompted entry and autopopulating fields. One of the fields I would like to populate is the "drawing author" field. I have selected the attribute to display the author of the drawing; but when I save the drawing, the field only shows "----". I think the reason for this is because it grabs the Author from DWGPROPS, which you would have to manually input. Is there a way that Autocad can display the author in the same way it does for the "lastsavedby" attribute? I want it to display the computer user who first generated the file without having to manually input it in the DWGPROPS first.

Thanks for your help!

Because the DWG property for "author" is a manual property there is no way to populate this automatically without some external programming.

It just seems silly that they would have a field for "LASTSAVEDBY" and not "FIRSTSAVEDBY"...

"FIRSTSAVEDBY" is almost never a criteria for the majority of users or companies in CAD: unless you are a lawyer 🙂

Funny you should mention that. We have situation where a pack of lawyers is fighting over the origins of a bunch of cad files that an ex employee is alledged to have taken from our server.

"Digital signature" in AutoCAD may be something you all look into for the future if this type of thing proves to be something you all require moving forward.

It appears that Dean and Leo answered this question. I'd recommend putting a feature request in with the AutoCAD Product Team.

Cheers!
