Attach/xref/open a dgn sheet in AutoCAD

Greetings

I'm using AutoCAD 2019

Is there a way to attach/xref/open a microstation dgn "SHEET/layout" in AutoCAD. 

The only option I see to "open" a microstation file is the "design model" option, but no sheet/layout option.

When trying to attach/xref a sheet file I get the following popup. None of these items are applicable because I can open a design model of the same project.

Quite honestly I am not sure this can be done.  If you can share the Microstation file though I am happy to see if it is possible. I have both Microstation and AutoCAD on  my computer and I suspect an "Export" from Microstation will be required.

Thank you for your reply. I presumed that it might not be possible. I was moving away from having the client provide the translation because I was ending up with only continuous lines for all layers and no line styles, and not until recently I was able to open a dgn with a healthy % of correct line styles.

I will email you a file.

I tried a variety of things such as saving down from Microstation as well as some export options.  I did not have any better luck than you have been experiencing trying to get this to work.  I imagine the sheets in the Microstation drawing are similar to AutoCAD paperspace layouts which also cannot be xref's or inserted. I am not terribly familiar anymore with Microstation but let me do a bit more research to see if I can find any other options.

I have received confirmation that AutoCAD only works with the Deign Models and not the sheets.
