Assign description table when object in AutoCad is highlighted

I wish to associate a table of contents to an autocad object (usually and polygon) that only appears when the object is highlighted either by clicking on that object or hovering over that object. The table is to disappear once the cursor has left the object or the object has been clicked again

Ideally this would be an Excel table.

Can this also be done using photos (jpegs)

Yes - you can cut/paste directly from Excel.  Yes - you can insert jpg's.  The possibilities for inserting objects/data are endless.

I am aware of being able to cut and  paste these items as a permanent display, however I only want the table or data to appear when the object is clicked on or hovered over. The table is to disappear when clicked or the cursor removed

Hyperlink?  look into that - in AutoCAD.  Creates a little icon where ever you want it (does not plot) that is a link to an external file.
