ARRAYS NOT SOLIDS

Why, when I create a polar or rectangular array of holes and then try to subtract them from the parent solid, I get a msg. that the array of holes is not a solid.  The fix is to Explode the array and then subtract all the individual "holes" from the parent solid.

Is this normal behaviour for 2013 SP 2 ??

Thanks

By default arrays have become associative. You can select them after creation and change the number of rows or columns and the array of objects will update. As you discovered you have to dissociate array items with Explode to use the arrayed objects as individual solids.

somewhere along the way in all those array options is one to associate or not

OK - got all that but I cannot understand why, if they default to Associative, they are tagged as being NOT solids.  What  purpose does that serve?

If I create a polar array of 100 holes in a plate, I have to, after EXPLODING them, individually subtract them from the plate.  That is just plain dumb.

You should be able to subtract the 100 cylinders to make the holes at with
one selection. Did you try it?
