"Off" kinda requires "Not On"

The Aperture setvar has a size range, which controls the visible (and effective) size of the object snap target.  Setting it to '1' will effectively render it invisible, but you will need to be very precise in using OSNAPs to actually get the point you need,

So it isn't really possible to not see the square

Hi,

try to change the value for APERTURE system variable ( valid 1-50 ) .

You may be able to have the color of the aperture either real small or on a color that matches background. Think that the crosshairs and aperture are the same color.

Are you actually talking about the APERTURE (the box displayed when using Object Snap)

-or-

are you actually talking about the PICKBOX (the box displayed on the crosshairs when no command is active)?

What problem are you trying to solve exactly? Explain in more detail please.

Or do you need to turn off APBOX to avoid the visual distraction?

Or do you just need to set it to 1 and learn to ignore the distracting visual effect?

TIA

Okay, so APERTURE. So why not just set APBOX to 0 ?

That's what you asked for in your first post "...is it possible to turn of the square of apperture but stil have it on?..."

Make up your mind my friend, on or off.

How do you figure? The APERTURE setting of 5, 10, 20, whatever still applies, you just don't see the box on your cursor.

When you are using Object Snap, it works just like if the box is visible. Note that the cursor has no box, but that my ENDP object snap is still working with my APERTURE setting of 10.

APBOX is, as @rkmcswain said, the correct System Variable name for controlling whether or not you see it [not to be confused with APERTURE, which is for the size of it].  If you don't want to deal with typing in System Variable names, you can turn it off by un-checking this:
