APPCRASH AutoCAD 2017 on startup

Has there been any solution on this issue that has worked?  I have read through the posts and really didnt see anything that says that the solution worked.  I have the exact same issue on one of my computers and have tried every possible solution outside of a full clean uninstall/install on all of my products on the computer.  I have tried updated drivers, .net framework, and trying to start with /nohardware.  It still crashes on load.

Hi @jdlandry504,

Can you provide a NFO file for me?  This might isolate what is happening.

If your data needs to be private or confidential, please email it directly to me at [email protected] and please include a link to this thread in your email.

Also if you have the chance to submit a CER Report when you have a crash, can  you give me the report number?

If you log onto this computer as a new user does the crash still occur?

Hi @jdlandry504,

Thanks for emailing the NFO to me. (In the future, if file attachments wont go on a post, simply ZIP them up first).

I noticed first that your Quadro driver looks quite old. I suggest grabbing a current one from here

I then checked your error reports in the NFO and saw a few things. First, the SFC.exe is failing. This utility scans the integrity of system files.  You might try running this manually to see if it can complete.

Next I see a accore.dll error which leads me to believe that the installation of AutoCAD is incomplete or damaged.

I am also seeing some faults with ntdll.dll.  I am hoping that the updated graphics driver will correct this problem.  It could however  be a permissions related issue as described in this article.

Lastly, I am seeing KERNELBASE.dll faults which also could be a result of a bad install. Here is an article that describes how to replace your C++ Redistributables by a reinstall of your Autodesk software.

So i have tried everything you have suggested and even went as far as doing a clean uninstall and reinstall of Autocad 2017 and it still crashes at startup.

Hi @jdlandry504,

Do you have the install logs from the %temp% folder that you zip up and attach to a post?

Did you do a clean uninstall prior to the reinstallation? If so, what shows up in the event logs? Do you see still, the errors I was seeing from your NFO file?

Yes i did a clean uninstall including uninstalling all of the redistribute versions before reinstalling everything.  I have attached a zipped file with the NFO and install logs.  I had a successful install when i started the reinstall of AutoCAD 2017.  I didn't really see any errors than the one that pops up when trying to open up AutoCAD after the install is complete.

Hi @jdlandry504,

Yes, the install log does indicate that the install went correctly.  I do see however that the display driver is not the one I provided. I think this would be worth an install.  I also see the same errors showing up in the error report.

I should Cleaning up the C++ Redistributables as suggested in the article I provided regarding the Kernelbase.

When you did the install, did you also install all the updates?

C++ Redistributables was uninstalled with all of the autodesk related products.  They were reinstalled when i attempted to install AutoCAD 2017 again.  I have not done any software updates after the initial installs.  The attempts to get it working has been going on all day today and all day yesterday.  I will try the other driver now and see what that does.

Hi @jdlandry504,

Please also install the updates for AutoCAD 2017.

Please tell me the version of .NET Framework that is running on your OS. 4.7 was problematic and most customers I have worked with found that 4.7.2 improved reliability while others preferred to rollback to 4.6.2

I installed your suggested graphics driver.  i currently have 4.7 installed.  I will try to install 4.7.2 as well as the autocad updates and see how that goes.

Hi @jdlandry504,

I am surprised that you don't get the opportunity to submit a CER report on this issue when you have the crash.

Here is something a bit different to try but a while back a Hotfix (5.1) was made available to resolve a license error that could cause a crash. Can you try applying this to see if it makes a difference?  Also, please try running a diagnostic startup (MSCONFIG) to turn everything else off when starting up to see if that allows AutoCAD to launch properly.

I have tried this as well.  In diagnostic startup AutoCAD doesn't run at all.

Hi @jdlandry504,

AutoCAD should run in diagnostic mode so that might mean an issue with the install or might indicate a system issue.

Can I ask you to try a Trial installation of AutoCAD 2019 to see if the problem happens there too?  This should not affect your current install but would be a nice test.

Having 2019 on the machine before the install of 2017 is what caused the issue to begin with but i will try it to see what happens.

I ran an install of AutoCAD 2019 and it worked fine.  It still however does not solve the issue of 2017 not working anymore which had worked fine before originally installing ACAD 2019 the first go round.

HI @jdlandry504,

Thanks for that test. You can uninstall 2019.  Can you rename the WSCommCntr.exe? It did throw an error earlier and 2019 does not rely on it (thus the test I requested).

Then please use the Dell utilities to update your computer (I see that the BIOS is 6 years old).

I hope this will get  you up and running properly. If the problem persists, please send me a new NFO since so many changes have been made.
