Hi All:  ODD-PROBLEM : WHILE GRIP-EDITING A POLYLINE AND CHOOSING EITHER 'ADD VERTEX' OR 'CONVERT TO ARC' IT FREQUENTLY SELECTS THE WRONG ONE

This has happens to me on multiple versions of Autocad.  Has anyone noticed this annoying behavior?

I never ran across that issue myself.   Can you clarify whether you're picking an option from the hover menu with a mouse, or using the keyboard. "C" for Convert to Arc, and "A" for Add Vertex

In addition to what Nestly said, please clarify exactly what you mean by "chooses the wrong one".  When I first read your post, I thought you were saying that it chose the wrong vertex (or possibly chose a different polyline).  Having read Nestly's response, I thought about it more and realize you could mean that it chooses Add Vertex when you choose Convert to Arc or vice versa.

Sorry! To clarify, it is the 'hovering' option. When I select one of the options from the popup menu it frequently chooses the other one. I only select from the bottom 2 in the menu. If I stretch I just grab the grip. I was just wondering if anyone else has seen this. And I don't have any other mouse selection issues in Autocad that I can think of...

Thanks guys!

I have this same issue and find that it seems to be because of a slight lag between the time click, and the program aknowledges the selection. I have trained myself to wait a 1/2 second after slecting before moving the mouse.

It takes a lot of practice to master it: keep at it, most of us did.

It doesn't take any practice, you simply click on "add vertex" and it tries to make the line an arc. How do you propose I master that?

I do it all day long in AutoCAD 2019.1.2, as I have done in 2018-17-and so on: as have everyone in my office all day long for years too.

Do you perhaps need to adjust your mouse driver settings/speed/sensitivities? Or is it something else like some of the other tips offered above by others trying to help the OP from year ago?

i've encountered this issue on different versions of autocad, different computers and different mice.

i click the polyline, hover over the grip, the menu appears: STRETCH, ADD VERTEX, CONVERT TO ARC [or STRETCH VERTEX, ADD VERTEX, REMOVE VERTEX if i edit a hatch].

sometimes, but not always, when i click ADD VERTEX, the program chooses STRETCH instead. it can even happen a few times in a row when i try to modify the grip that refuses to cooperate. and i clearly see that i'm clicking ADD VERTEX. after a few attempts i do it slowly and then it works.

as i said, it doesn't happen all the time.

now, what is this lag time you're talking about? why is there a even a lag? why do i experience it on different devices?

i haven't seen this happen with any other menu. but then again, i think it's the only hover menu i use.

[right now i use autocad LT 2021 so it's not an update issue]

I encountered an issue where I used to work using a laptop.  I had to hover til the pop up came up then I had to use the arrow keys to select what I needed. It worked okay if I had the drawing area on the laptop but who does that if you have dual monitors. Don't know if it was the docking station that was causing the issue but they had the worst CAD system I had ever seen

If, in only the case of the Add-vertex option, you are picking on a grip at a vertex  rather than at a mid-segment grip, and it sometimes adds a vertex in the "wrong" adjacent segment [defined by which one you intended], that is affected by the direction in which the Polyline was drawn.  It always puts the added vertex in the "downstream" segment from the vertex grip.

Instead of selecting the option you want with your mouse after hovering, just type the first letter of the word of the selection you want. 100% success rate in our office.

Otherwise... start a support ticket with Autodesk from your Autodesk Accounts Page to see if they have a definitive mouse-selection fix if turning off hardware acceleration in your AutoCAD session does not help.

Running into the same problem

FYI, doing something else with 100% success rate isn't solving the problem. I'd like to actually find a solution to the problem instead of working around it.

No, it's not my click-speed, no it's not a lag. I've done it without a lag, as slow as I could to make sure I was clicking the "convert to arc", but it still gave me the "Add vertex". No, it's not all the time, but it's happened so often now that I had to look up if someone else was having the same issues. Turns out I wasn't the only one.
No solution yet, it seems
