We are considering adding a network path for Activity Insights so people could see changes from others. Has anyone else done this and if so, does that folder get a large amount of data that would concern IT?

Well, did you look up your own folder and compare with others' folders then just do the math?

If that does not look prohibitive, then set that up with a 2-3 users at your end for a week and discover it based on your users actions @JoeKidd33 

If your IT is concerned about disk space, they aren't doing their job honestly, that ought to never be a short-term concern or them.

We don't have much data yet. We are in the planning stages of deployment and trying to determine if we want to set the path to a network location before we deploy to over 400 users. I am considering a temporary drive that deletes files older than 30 days automatically. Looks like most of the files are small 1kb files, but that is with occasional use in preliminary beta testing. Looking for feedback from people who have set it to a network location. Did they find the information useful, does it slow the drawing open down once data builds etc?

IMO, AutoCAD does enough background work as it is. Is it possible or have you considered just scraping the data from local machines once/day via Task Scheduler or something? That way data can be collected on user start-up or some scheduled time. It's ONE network hit per day vs MULTIPLE from Acad per session.

@JoeKidd33 Thanks for the extra details. At that scale you need to do much local testing, I've not seen any precedence for your case yet to glean much information from.

We have it active on the network drive.
From October 2023 to today, with 5 users, it's ~60 MB.

For me since june 2023 until today, single user, working in autocad 5 days a week:

Size 11,4 MB
Size on disk 46,2 MB (data is very fragmented)
Total files 11.329 in 382 folders

Some days I see folders containing ±30 1KB json files and other times 8. There's always a .join file ranging in size depending on the activity I'm guessing. (5-30KB)

So I'd say 4GB if 400 users work daily for a whole year is generous counting?

Something bothers me about this Activity Insights. Maybe I'm paranoid, but when software gathers information, I wonder who's to benefit the most? Especially since Activity Insights runs always - even if you don't use AutoCAD. According to the help text, the background feature is used to record:

• Drawing renamed using Windows Explorer
• Drawing copied using Windows Explorer
• A pre-AutoCAD 2024 version is used to make edits to an AutoCAD 2024 created drawing

Ok, sounds reasonable, but still - is it for local use only? Or is the gathered info 'taken home' every once in a while?
