acad and windows 10

i am looking to buy a laptop on which i can run ACAD.  the listings of best laptops for ACAD all seem to run on windows 10.  posts from early 2016 and older all point out compatibility issues, but since the seems to be the OS for all the recommended laptops, has this now been resolved?

I see that you are visiting as a new member. Welcome to the Autodesk Community! 

 AutoCAD 2016 with Service Pack and updates runs very well on Windows 10. The major issue though will be screen resolution and settings for hi-res displays.

You would be wise to select the current OS and then consider upgrading to AutoCAD 2017 (with updates) or AutoCAD 2018 which have much better support for hi-res screens.

if end up just running LT would that make a difference?

and if I move my 2013 from one computer to the other is that an option?

Hi @Anonymous,

LT is certainly an option but I would not use a version older than 2015 (again with all the patches and updates). You will still likely have some hi-res display issues.

I am not sure that you will even be able to get AutoCAD 2013 to install. Some users have been able to run it (with issues) on Windows 10 but usually it is because it was installed on an older OS that was then upgraded to Windows 10.

Since the laptop is a given, why don't you install Trials of both AutoCAD and LT and see which one serves your needs the best?

AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT have essentially the same system requirements. You might need more horsepower for example, if you were doing complex 3D modeling in AutoCAD, that you can't do in LT.

You're going to have a hard time getting 2013 installed correctly on Win10, and even if you do, there are so many problems with display issues on new hardware, that you're not going to have a good experience IMO. Either stick with your existing laptop, get another older laptop with Win7, upgrade your AutoCAD to 2018, or dare I say it... look at some alternative CAD program if upgrading to true AutoCAD 2018 is not in your budget.
