I am slowly (but surely) coming around to annotative dimensioning. As I create new details and update old ones, I am making the dimensioning annotative. However, I've run into a problem. As I insert my details onto my detail sheets, the dimensioning doesn't appear at first. I have to go into the block editor and set the property of annotative dimensioning to "yes" and redefine the block. My detail sheet is 1:1 scale. When I insert a detail that is drawn at 1"-1'-0", I scale it by a factor of 1/12.
What do I need to do in order to avoid going into the block editor every time?
Thank you,
Thank you for your response, Pendean.
I will look at drawing the details at 1:1, although that might be a little tedious considering my existing detail library and my not solve my problem. To be clear, my details are drawn at full size. I'm now inserting my details in paperspace, which means I have to scale a detail dimensioned at 1"=1'-0" by 1/12, a detail dimensioned at 3/4"=1'-0" by 1/8, etc.
My (perceived) problem is that, while editing the detail, the annotative scale is set correctly, but when I insert the detail onto my detail sheet (again, in paperspace scaling by 1/12 for a detail with the annotative scale set to 1"=1'-0"), go into the block editor, the annotative property is set to "no". When I change it to "yes" and leave the block editor, my dimensions appear.

Also, I cannot change CANNOSCALE.
Like in modelspace
Or paperspace while inside a viewport (aka active viewport)
Or something/somewhere else?
EDIT: I forgot to also add, which of these do you have turned on/off? And if you change them?
I can change in model space.
I can change while in a current vp in ps.
I want to add the details in ps.
Nowhere else.
Neither =8^O
I can't change ANNOSCALE when I type CANNOSCALE at the command prompt. I get "Enter new value for CANNOSCALE <"1'-0"=1'-0">:". No matter what I enter, 1:1, 1"=1", 1'-0" = 1'-0", 1/4"=1'-0", I get "Cannot set CANNOSCALE to that value."
The problem is that, when I insert a block, even though it's defined as associative, it imports as associative = no.
How do I change that?

So paperspace, outside of viewports, has a preset 1:1 annotative scale that you cannot change by design. Is this the part you are having issues with? You cannot fight it. Sorry.
If not... How are you inserting this custom-made dynamic block of yours exactly in modelspace or inside viewports in paperspace that you end up facing this issue with?
FWIW ToolPalettes are full of annotative and dynamic blocks samples from Autodesk, do these also break for you in your files in modelspace or inside viewports in paperspace too?
These are not dynamic blocks. I am not inserting them in viewports at all. They are going on my detail sheets in paper space. The detail sheets are tabs of my project file. Model space (and viewports) are only used for plan views. They are simple details I'm trying to put on a detail sheet, like I have done for 30 years. Only now, I'm trying to "get with it" by using annotative dimensioning. The details are drawn at full size, but they are at different scales. Most are 1"=1'-0", but some are 3/4"=1'-0" and some are 1-1/2"=1'-0", so, when they come into the detail sheet, now in paper space, they come in at different sizes. I have to scale them down (1/12 for 1"=1'-0", etc.) to all be the same size and for the scales to be correct. I used to have DIMS_12, DIMS_16, etc for each size (scale) of detail. But now, I just have DIMS which is associative. I assign the scale to the dimension while in the detail. I don't know how else one would do detail sheets.
When I used stand alone detail sheets, they would all be in model space with the title block XREF'd in model space. Those sheets were set up for 1"=1'-0" because that's the scale the majority of details are drawn at. I would have to scale the other details appropriately.
The ONLY problem I am having now, is that when I bring in a details (with annotative dimensioning), scale the detail appropriately, I don't see the annotative dimensions, text and leaders. When I click on the block and check the properties, it shows "no" for being annotative. I then have to go into the block editor and change annotative from "no" to "yes". When I close the block editor, everything shows up. If I OPEN the detail and look at the properties, the annotation scale is shown. Why does this change when I insert it as a block?

How else would one assemble detail sheets? Put 20 viewports on a sheet? That's ridiculous.
