ACAD 2019 Hangs will Opening Files Created in 2019 on another Computer

I am setting up a new computer with AutoCAD 2019.  I've copied all my CAD files over from my old computer, which was also running 2019.  I have found that AutoCAD hangs while opening files on the new computer.  No error message, it just does nothing (sometimes I see a blue circle).  I have to start Task Manager and it says ACAD is not responding, so have to end task to close ACAD.  It seems to only be files that I created on my old computer this year (2019).  I can open old files (created prior to 2019) and files that I modified this year, but did not create this year.  I am running Windows 10 65-Bit with the 1903 update (came loaded on this new computer, so can't roll back).  I did not have the 1903 update on the old computer.  I have ACAD 2019.1.2 on both the new & old computers.  I also downloaded ACAD 2020 with the same results.  I downloaded DWG TrueViewer with the same results.  I'm using a log-in subscription and made sure to log out of the old computer, same results.  It almost seems like it's a permissions issue, not corruption.  I had the same issue with a template.  Could open an older version, but not a new version.  Have tried copying the file again to be sure it wasn't corrupted during copying.  Nothing I've tried so far has worked.  Drives are all up-to-date.  I've uninstalled/reinstalled ACAD and gone through several of the steps to fix corruption.  Any help is appreciated.

Hi,

>> I've copied all my CAD files over from my old computer

Is the path for the copied version of your files the same as in your old workstation, if not it might have to do with missing paths for referenced files like XRef, Image, ...

Have you also transferred support files like PC3/PMP or STB/CTB-files?

Have you used special fonts which do not exist on your new workstation?

Do you have the same issue if you create a new Windows user account, give that account admin permissions, login with that account, turn off antivirus, then start AutoCAD without any customization's(!), are the dwg-files then working well?

It ended up being a Windows Profile issue.  I created a new profile and now all CAD files open normally.  thank you for your help.

After running fine for a week suddenly the issues started up again this afternoon.  AutoCAD becomes unresponsive trying to open some files.  I rebooted in safe mode and those same files will open.  Any other ideas for troubleshooting is appreciated.

Hi,,

>> trying to open some files.

Does it depend on specific files, or on files from a specific location?

In my first post I asked some questions you never answered, maybe it makes sense to answer them so we get more information about the circumstances, to find the base of your issue instead of kill all settings. ... I asked that before doing a simple reset settings (and so undoing your customization's) ... but you might try >>>reset settings to default<<<

In answer to your original questions:  1) it seems to just be files I created this year (2019) from my old computer.  I can open files I created last year, or that someone else created and I modified this year.  I can also open new files I created on the new computer; 2) the paths aren't the same, but I tested by putting one of the files in the same path and it wouldn't open, plus for the files I can open, it prompts to reset xref paths that may have changed; 3) the only support files I have are plot styles and I've copied those, not sure what PC3/PMP or STB/CTB files are; 4) I don't use special fonts; 5) I did create a new Windows profile and it fixed the problem temporarily, then it started again a few days later.

As far as troubleshooting, I've reset AutoCAD, uninstalled and reinstalled AutoCAD, did the same with a 3rd party software I use with CAD, created a new Windows Profile (fixed temporarily), opened in Safe mode (files open then).  I've done all steps AutoDesk suggests to do for drawings that Freeze or Crash.  I did restore the ACAD settings to default when the issue first happened a few days ago.

Please upload one or two files from these ones, that open only very slow or crash, maybe we can find "specials" inside them.

Attached is one, it's a very simple drawing, pretty much just polylines.

Hi,

you are accessing cloud data with this file. The file "DCI_Logo.jpg" is stored in a OneDrive folder which means it's searching in the cloud.

Does it open quicker when you detach that JPG?

Are you using (or did you use) 3rd party apps? Because there are RegApps (to be purged using _-PURGE) which I don't know:

One Drive was the default folder when I upgraded to Windows 10 and that's where my documents were on my old computer (though I turned off the sync).  I don't save my files there anymore, but checked and OneDrive did download that jpg when I setup this new computer.  So, it's there for CAD to find the file.  Though this does make sense as an issue.  The folders opened very slowly.  I can't open the CAD file though, so can't detach the jpg.  Do you know if there is a way to do that without opening CAD?

Yes, I do use a 3rd party app (20-20 CAP).  I've uninstalled it and tried opening the files and same result.

Hi,

Are these two statements not a bit contradictory?

What happens when you disconnect your workstation from network, so Internet can't be found.

The start AutoCAD and test the file ... better?

The OneDrive jpg file was the problem.  When I setup my new computer it downloaded a few files I had sync'd originally and that jpg was one of them.  For some reason it's loading very slowly, which caused AutoCAD to hang.  I removed the files completely and now the files open and prompt me to reset the xref path.

Thank you so much for looking at that file, you saved me a ton of time!  I was not looking forward to recreating all those files.
