Hi,

We run acad in our CAD labs here at our Polytechnic University.  One of our faculty members has noticed that Acad is crashing when trying to open a second drawing.  We are using Windows 7 SP1 with Acad 2019 and update 2019.1.2.

Here is her description of what is occuring:
The issue is opening a second drawing from an external source. If you open the second drawing from Acad, no problem. If you try to open from Moodle or Windows Explorer, Flash drive, etc. it crashes.

Any feedback for a possible solution would be appreciated.  AutoDesk Educational support suggested checking for update KB4019990, but we have had that update on our lab images since Oct. 2017 and they suggested posting the issue to the acad forum.

Regards,
Todd

Hi,

For opening from Windows Explorer ... do you mean a double click on a dwg-file or drag and drop a dwg-file from Windows Explorer into AutoCAD?

Other question: "Windows Explorer" is a software, "Flash drive" is a hardware, I understand that you can use a software to do something with a file, but "Flash drive" is just a storage space, that does not have any functionality to open a dwg-file. (and I don't know what Moodle now can have to do with opening dwg-files).

So I would like to ask, is it the storage location that makes the difference or is it the software you use to open the file (and how do you then open the file)?

Hi Alfred,

Thanks for the reply. I believe the issue was trying to open a second dwg file (by double-clicking the file...while an instance of Acad already had a drawing open) in a windows explorer folder location, or from a USB flash drive, or from a folder location off the moodle site. So to clarify, Acad up and dwg one is open. Then go to explorer and try opening a second dwg file from a double-click and then acad 2019 crashes.

I will try to clarify with my colleague for you. See is off on vacation this week, but she is checking email. I will update if her response is different from my response above.

Regards,

Todd

Todd,

Did you ever come up with a solution to AutoCAD crashing when opening a second DWG file?

I'm suddenly having the same issue myself and wondering what the fix might be.

Thanks,

Hello,

No solution for that issue. We are now using Acad 2020 in the CADD labs. Sorry I could not be of help.

Regards,
Todd
