45 degree bevel/chamfer on hexagagonal plate

Hi everyone.

I have a hexagonal plate 50 dia a/f  and 10thk.

I want a full 45 degree bevel on all six sides.

How do I do that in Aoutocad 2010.

A hexagon can never have 45° on all six sides as 6*45° does not equal 360° it only equals 270°

 

The angles need to be 120° to be a closed hexagon

 

A closed OCTAGON however can have 45° angles

Imagine a hexagon with another smaller hexagon above it.Now connect all the corners.You have something that looks like a pyramid but with a hexagon base and a smaller hexagon top.Each face is sloping in 45 degrees.

Unfortunately i don't have full Autocad, so someone else will have to tell you how to do the 3d version of this.

 

1. Draw a line 50 long

2. Offest it upwards by 10

3. Draw 2 45° lines from the end of your bottom 50 line. It doesn't matter how long they are just make sure they pass the top line.

4. Trim the diagonals AND the top line.

5. The top line should now be the length (across flats) of what your smaller hexagon should be (which according to what I just drew is 30)

Draw the hexagon.  EXTRUDE it, giving it 45 degrees in its taper angle option [where that comes in relation to the height varies by AutoCAD version].

You could also use CHAMFEREDGE command from the Command Line or the Solid Editing Ribbon/Toobar.

 

Start the command, specify the Distance (Distance1 and Distance2 are equal for a 45 degree chamfer), select an Edge, then select the Loop option to chain the chamfer around the entire perimeter.
