3d view changing viewpoint when doing 3d rotate

I am trying to 3D rotate an object, but every time I pick on the direction I want on the gizmo, the view changes to either a side view, front view or another 2D view and switches to wireframe, when I am working in 2D wireframe. Is there a way round this? It's very frustrating

Hi,

thanks for your reply, but its not the actual gizmo that's the problem. Its the view that changes when I select the required direction. I attached a screen shot of before selection and then what it changes to when selected

having this problem for years on multiple computers/ autocads/ ...
You get the view in 3D and move/scroll-> jumps by itself to an other view.
You have to hold down the shift key when you do something ... -> hate this BUG

I much prefer the rotate3d command to the 3drotate command.  Try it!

It's not the rotating.
set Hidden visual style (flat or in 3D view) -> scroll OR rotate OR ... -> view starts jumping to other corners or rotating like crazy.
I need 2 place autocad points in 3D view for specific work and this is just not possible...

From your first post "I am trying to 3D rotate an object" so I assumed you were using 3drotate.   Do you want to rotate the viewing point or the object.
Does this statement capture the problem?
"When trying to rotate an object with the 3drotate command when viewed in a view other than a principal view the view automatically changes to a plan view? I don't want the view to change when I execute a command to rotate an object in 3D."
If so, did you try rotate3d?
