2D dwg blueprints, need to transform to 3d for Unreal engine

Hello all,

I have a project where I need to enable space planning in several sites using VR. For this I need to build the locations as a 3d world for use in Unreal Engine. I have the 2d plans as dwg, but would need to transform them into a 3d space.

What would be your suggestions to make this work, or is it unfeasable in your opinion?

All help is very much appreciated, and if this is the wrong forum, please move or point to the right direction 🙂

br,

Matias

There are many tutorials to get you started on the web, let me help you with that search https://www.google.com/search?q=autocad+tip%3A+how+to+convert+2d+to+3d

Thank you for the reply Pendean, I found some similar tutorials but decided to ask here as the project involves fairly big floor plans and I figured there might be a better way to get the work done. Our dwg files include side views of the same spaces and naturally there are windows and so on in the buildings concerned. Using the methods on the youtube videos seem to concentrate on objects and much simpler designs and I'm sure via extrude and manual work they can be done easily.

I am however curious whether a more streamlined workflow exists by which to achieve good results with whole sections of buildings if you have all normal blueprints for it, including top down, different floors and side views.

Best regards,

Matias

What is VR?

What do you mean with "use in Unreal Engine".

(Sorry, maybe my English is too rudimentary.)

Can you share the blueprints with us? (So we can better estimate if and how it can be done).

2D Blueprints means you only have paper prints to work with, correct? AutoCAD does not convert paper prints to 3D models.

If you mean 2D DWG files instead... there is no automated option to convert flat floor plans into Virtual Reality 3D models in plain AutoCAD, the better workflow is to draw in 3D all the time in the first place for your floor plans using software like REVIT or AutoCAD Architecture or INVENTOR or 3DSMax or whatever the correct software is for your 3D product(s).

Here are online information pages for AutoCAD3d to Virtual Reality that you might find useful https://www.google.com/search?q=autocad+3d+to+vr
