for some reason when I open autocad a small dialog box says "acadapp missing". It was working fine 10 minutes ago. I searched my computer for acadapp.arx file and there isn't one.
I tried "repairing" autocad and still getting message.
Any ideas to fix this without complete reinstall?
Thanks in advance.

You could have a corrupted profile, try using the Reset settings to default tool found in the start menu under the AutoCAD 2016 directory.

Hi,
>> a small dialog box says "acadapp missing"
If reset to defaults does not work then please create a screenshot from that message (and the screen around this message) and upload it here.
This gives us a bit more details (which state has AutoCAD at that moment as well as a title of that message-box).
