Hi all

Good evening

Im using AutoCAD LT 2017 on Mac.

I can't seem to get my coordinates to display on a drawing after selecting a point.

I need to place into them into a tx box next to said point.

Ive done this before but its been a long day !!!

Hi @Anonymous,

There is this command that is called ID. Try to key in that to the command line window then select the point that you want. You will be able to get the coordinate of that point.

Please let me know if this solves the issue or needs more assistance.

You can create a block with an attribute that contains a "blockplaceholder" field for position.

Whereever you place the block it will display the coordinates of the insert point of the block.

I will make a quick screencast for a follow up post.

Hope this helps

Hi Jon P,

Unfortunately there is no "blockplaceholder" functionality in AutoCAD for Mac, this feature is available only in Windows version.

Hi Matt,

If you want to have text object with coordinates of the point you picked in the drawing area, than it is a good idea to use macro with DIESEL which can ask you for picking point in the drawing and then create text with coordinates of this point.

Look here for some examples:

Thanks all for your answers

I don't think my page is set up correctly or it is displaying in mm

As you can see from the coordinates

Do you use one of the macros from the link I provided?
Which one?

As I understand, you need 9 decimal places. Is it correct?
Do you need metric or imperial units?

Hi Maxim

I tried the dimordinate command, this is how far I got then it all disappears. The text showing is the northing and yes I work in metric.

thank you for your time

If you are using dimordinate command, than you can adjust decimal places in dimensions (including ordinate dimensions) here:

I have found this and now showing 3 places.

Without entering DIMORDINATE, XDATUM etc each time in the command bar is there a quicker way to display the coordinates of each point.

Ideally I click and a point and the coordinates are displayed as such

AutoCAD is not robust enough to know where to put measured coordinate values, so you need to tell AutoCAD the location of measured coordinate after you pick the feature location inside DIMCOORDINATE command.

With the following macro:

^C^CDIMORDINATE;\_X;\DIMORDINATE;$M=$(getvar,lastpoint);_Y;\

you will need to pick 3 points on screen to get the results you need:
- feature location (the point you want to measure)
- place for Xdatum
- place for Ydatum

So, create custom command with CUI editor and place a button with it to the Tool Sets palette.
