Shift Deselect Not Working

mmany
Contributor

I know this has been discussed, but all the solutions require using the command MAPIOPTIONS, or otherwise deselecting the option that sets shift+click to image select.  My problem is that my version of AutoCAD (2013 for Mac) does not recognize the command MAPIOPTIONS and I don't think I'm running this raster add-on people are talking about.

I very much need to be able to deselect using shift+click or shift+drag window.  I am basically not able to work with this software as it is.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

mmany

This should be default behavoir in FC for Mac.

Please check  PICKADD system variable - it should be 1 or 2.

 Hi,

I'm having this same issue, after searching through the forums and google nothing seems to work for deselecting items... I've checked my options, looked at the pickadd settings, just cant seem to get it to work for me. Any ideas?

Thanks

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

But what happens if you hold Shift key and are trying to pick on objects after you selected them previously?

Thank you for the welcome :0)

Well if try shift select an item, I do get a little minus symbol appear at the curser but clicking does not remove item from the selection. Also command line reads:

<cycle on> <cycle off>

I've tried altering selection cycle already

Which AutoCAD version do you have. Please specify also macOS version installed on your Mac.

OK,
I'm able to reproduce the issue. But there is one condition you need before Shift Deselect stops working in proper way:
you need to perform keyboard combination "Shift + Spacebar" in the drawing once.
After this Shift Deselect stops working until you call some command, even REDRAW.
Looks like this is a bug in AutoCAD for Mac.
The workaround is to set system variable SELECTIONCYCLING=0 (zero), this will disable Selection Cycling permanently and the issue will not show again.

The default OOTB value for SELECTIONCYCLING is -1 which disabled Selection Cycling, but not permanently.

Thank You for looking into this,

on opening the same drawing again, shift deselecting worked fine again. Than as you did, by pressing shift + Space the problem was back.

Thanks again!

Hi, I'm also having this issue on Autocad MAC 2018.

When I have a selection highlighted and hit Select & click or draw a window, I get the prompt "cycle on, cycle off". I've tried setting SELECTIONCYCLING to 0 (& -2, -1) but to no avail.

Is there another workaround for the cycle on/ cycle off prompt?

I've never had this problem in any of my other files.

Hi,

Have you tried to set SELECTIONCYCLING= -2 and relaunch AutoCAD (use QUIT command and then launch AutoCAD again)?
>>>>When I have a selection highlighted and hit Select & click
not sure I understand correctly "hit Select & click"

FYI this is still happening in AutoCAD LT for Mac 2022.  It seems I can either have selection cycling, OR the ability to deselect multiple items - but not both (as we can with Windows AC).  Am I missing something?

Still in version 2024. I'm so glad I spend thousands yearly on a half baked software.... disgrace....

The only thing I’ve found that works is saving, closing and reopening the file.

I recently installed ACLT for Mac 2024 and I think it resets the SELECTIONCYCLING variable back to -2 every time you restart the program.  Very annoying.  You must reset it back every time you restart ACLT...

Hi @leba-craigv ,

Yes, this is a bug.
