Hi,

Yes, you can use shape files (.SHX) in AutoCAD for Mac the same way as in Windows version.

Command LOAD - loads shape file to current drawing, then you can use SHAPE command to insert shapes from loaded .SHX file to the drawing.

Thanks for the response. I tried to load the .shx file(the only one that it allowed me to load) but was told there was an error reading the file. I downloaded the shape files again to try again with similar result. What now?

I've tested LOAD and SHAPE command with one of my old .SHX files (they are even from DOS version of AutoCAD) and everything works fine with it.

Where did you get yours shape files?

Could you post it here?

Maxim

I tried with another shape file with similar results. I am using the 30 day trial of AutoCAD for Mac to see if I want to switch from AutoCAD 2006 for windows. It would be good to know if the trial is a full version or not? Any ideas?

Qucik question - are these shape files, as in AutoCAD symbols and fonts; or shape files, as generated by Map3D and other mapping/GIS-type applications?

They would be shape files as generated by mapping/GIS applications.

Ah - bingo.  Plain AutoCAD can't do anything with those, Win *or* Mac.
