Publish to PDF shows boxes around all text attributes AutoCAD 2017 lt MAC

When I publish my drawings (paper space) to a PDF, it leaves boxes around all the text attributes when viewed as a PDF. This does not occur if I PLOT to a pdf, only when publishing. Any suggestions as to how to turn these boxes off in the PDF? They do not appear in paper space and they do not show on any plots, whether to a hardware printer/plotter or the pdf driver.

I just have a few questions to better address your problem.

Have you had this happen with previous AutoCAD for the Mac releases?

Is this happening for all drawings?

Are you able to test another user log in on your system to see if AutoCAD has the same effect in that environment?

Q: what font is being used for the attributes?
And which PDF driver is being used in PUBLISH command?

I think you and this other post next to yours are seeking the same answer to fix the same problem https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-for-mac-forum/print-vs-publish-in-autocad-lt-for-mac/td-p/683...

Font used is ROMANS.  Driver is DWG to PDF. I have already installed the hot fix that AutoDesk published today for AutoCAD 2017 LT for Mac, as well as any updates to my OS (Sierra 10.12.2.

Thanks,

This is my first version I am using for the MAC. I had used 2013 for PC previously, and this had never happened.

Yes, it is happening for all drawings.

No, I cannot use a different login, as I am using subscription services from AutoDesk.

Thanks,

Hi Rick,

If you will open PDF created with Batch Publish in Acrobat Reader you will not see these boxes, I believe you can see them only in Preview application. Isn't it?

The new PDF engine which AutoCAD 2017 for Mac use when you Batch Publish makes PDF with searchable text, created with SHX fonts. In fact it places "invisible" notes above SXH based text, but Preview application on Mac shows these notes as rectangles around text (and Acrobat Reader doesn't show these rectangles).

You can prevent AutoCAD fronm creating searchable SHX text if you set system variable EPDFSHX=0 (zero). This should also remove boxes which appear around text in PDF file when you view it in Preview app.

Hello,

I tried your solution but unfortunately it did not seem to do it for my case. Was wondering if you can help.

I have attached shots of what i have.

* The image of the PDF is taken from Adobe PDF DC Pro and because i have a limit to attachments i can not show you how the preview looks but its pretty much the same with the addition that the hatches look much bigger than their scale in the drawing as well.

Hi Shareef,Screen Shot 2018-06-21 at 09.58.18.png

If yes, then it is not PDF with searchable text related issue.

Adobe DC cannot find True Type font saved in PDF and cannot display it correctly.

Can you attach the PDF file itself instead of screenshots?

This is happening on 2018 but not 2017 & it is not happening all the time.  Not sure how to fix it.
