Problem with text editing

I have just upgraded to AutoCAD 2025 from AutoCAD 2017.  When I open a previous drawing the text cannot be seen properly or edited in either model or paper space. Any ideas on how to remove this?

Hi @suemanning ,

Can you elaborate? What kind of text? What command do you use when you try to edit the text?

Please give us more details: screenshots, drawing itself.

Are these oversized text the ones you added but could not see? They were present when I opened your file (that's for saving it in the layout).

Your STYLE is set to zero height and your TEXTSIZE variable is set to 20, but your MTEXT in the image above vary is size between 50 and 100 (obviously way too big to see if you zoomed in real close before typing).

I can't see any of the text as I zoom in. Yes, the oversized text is me trying to figure out what is going on. I've obviously managed to edit it in some way!

Hi @suemanning ,

What macOS installed on your Mac?

have you installed the latest Update to AutoCAD 2025?

@suemanning

Can you create screen recording of what happens when you try to edit / create text?

When I click to edit the textedit box comes up but then I can't see the writing - just appears blank. I haven't got the right sort of keyboard to create a screenshot.

The OS is Sonoma 14.7.1 and was installed recently. The AutoCAD software was also installed recently (last week) and was updated when requested.

@suemanning ,

Please specify your Mac model.

What Graphics engine is active in AutoCAD Preferences (General tab)?

 If it is Metal - have you tried to change it to OpenGL. Core Profile? Don't forget to relaunch AutoCAD after you change  Graphics Profile.

Graphics ATI Radeon HD 4670 256 MB

Changing the Graphic Engine  to OpenGL. Core Profile has helped. I can now see and edit the text. Thank you!

However there are now long lines across the model space that I cannot erase, although they don't seem to appear when I print preview

Your Mac is too old. Looks like you install macOS Sonoma on it with OpenCore Legacy Patcher, and the latest macOS is supported officially on your Mac is High Sierra. But according to the AutoCAD 2025 for Mac System requirements the Mac model must be compatible with macOS Monterey or higher.

That is why you have troubles with Graphics performance on your Mac.

Anyway,  to get rid of "long lines across the model space" you can try to set LINESMOOTHING system variable to 0 (zero) while OpenGL Core Profile is active in AutoCAD Settings. This may help resolve the issue with graphical artefacts.
