Polar tracking/Dynamic input question

Hi there.

I'm not quite sure how to describe this...

If I have a horizontal line drawn of say 1200mm.  I then wish to draw a rectangle of 1200 in the x plane and 600 in the y plane - so I start by drawing a horizontal along my 1200mm line and then track on the y coordinate and input a distance of 600mm.  Whatever setting I have doesn't allow me to input a distance in the 'direction of the cursor' and  the 600mm distance I input is drawn in the x plane.

I'm not sure this is a Polar tracking setting or dynamic input or something else but I have been able to do this on previous versions of AutoCad LT  - I am currently running 2023.

Any help much appreciated.

Neil

Hi Neil,

@neillyditt

Do you use RECTANG command? Or PLINE command?

Where do you pick start point? Is it related somehow to the line you mentioned?

Hi.

Yes RECTANG command and the x coordinate is taken from the first line.  When my tracking goes on the y coordinate I want to be able to input a distance for the perpendicular measurement without it automatically deferring to the first plane.

is that helpful?

Sorry, can you make screencast or a series of screenshots that illustrates your steps?

You will see in the 3rd screenshot that it only gives me the option to input the 1st distance even though the tracking is going in the other direction.  The 1200mm is already established bye tracking up from the original line so I want to be able to input the 600mm in the y coordinate

I see.

Here is what works for me:

- Start RECTANG command

- Pick left endpoint of line to specify the start point

- Hit TAB key to switch input to another side of the rectangle (y)

- use Object snap tracking to hook the left endpoint of the line

- move cursor up or down, type 600 and hit Return.
