Opening DWG files in AutoCad 2017 Mac when created in AutoCad 2018 for windows

Hi

Please initially move this to AutoCad boards as i could not post it there

The windows machine is used and we selected to save the file as 2013 but still AutoCad Mac 2017 cannot open it as it was created in a more recent version. The actual error message is this:

The drawing file could not be opened because it was created with a more recent version of AutoCAD

Thanks Tom

Hi @VAtom,

When you save the file in the Windows version, are you able to save down to the 2013 file format? Have you also tried an -EXPORTtoAUTOCAD command to get this to work?

Can you attach a sample 2018 file for me to examine?

Hi

Yes, we are selecting the 2013 option, just tried the command EXPORTtoAUTOCAD and got the same error

The wording of the error concerns me 'created in' not 'saved as'

Will get you a non confidential file for you to try

Thanks Tom

Thanks Tom

I will wait to see your file.  If the file is CREATED in AutoCAD with any vertical proxy objects then this is not a surprising result.

Hi Tom,

I have no troubles with drawings created in AutoCAD 2018 for Windows and saved in 2013 format using "Save as" functionality. Such drawings open in AutoCAD 2017 for Mac without any problems.

Hi Tom,

The drawing you attached is in 2018 DWG format. When I open it in AutoCAD 2018 for Windows the command prompt shows:2017-07-18_11-43-55.png

I saved your drawing on my system in 2013 DWG format and attached it to my post.

Please try to open it in AutoCAD for Mac.

Maxim

HI

We have saved it as 2013, checked and even our default options are set to save as 2013.

Is it a problem with the windows hardware/software????

Could be a problem with Windows version installed on your machine, but I've never heard of such a problem with saving in previous format in AutoCAD 2018.
