Mtext problem

Hi ! I've just downloaded the new AutoCAD for Mac 2020 and as I was woking on a project, I realized that it was impossible to use the MText command. I used the icon or the written command ; the cursor appeared but as soon as I enter "the first corner" and after "the opposite corner" nothing happened (no window for the format...). It returns to cursor and I can't write anything.

From an already-done plan, I try to double click on the text to have the command window (what I've many times on the 2019 version) and again I can't have it to modify the text.

Is there a new way for the text or is it a problem with the software ? I have to work again on the 2019 version before something is fixed or explained.

Thank you.

Hi,

Do you have this problem from the beginning, when you installed AutoCAD 2020 for the first time?
Have you tried to Reset AutoCAD (menu AutoCAD -> Reset AutoCAD)?
Can you create screencast showing what's happening when you are trying to create/edit Mtext?

I've got an update for this problem. I did reset Autocad but nothing happened.

However I realize that when I download Autocad it is in the French version (even though I demand the english version). The Text command is OK then.

When I open it I change in the Preferences the user interface language for English and restart it to have the good language to work on the software. It is then that the MText command is not working at all.

Do you have a solution ?

What do you see at the command window when you are trying to use MTEXT command?

Hi !

I can't see nothing : that is the problem. I can't send you any screen shot.

I click on the MText command, click to define the first corner and then the opposite corner for the text zone and then nothing... The cursor is going back as if I did "escape".

Why? Shift+Cmd+3 should create screenshot by default.

Open command window (Menu Window - Command Line), expand it with mouse to see more lines of text, start MTEXT command, try to complete it and look at the command window - what do you see in it?

Hi

Also having the same problem. Here's what happens on my end.

Command: MTEXT
Current text style: "Standard" Text height: 200 Annotative: No
Specify first corner:
Specify opposite corner or [Height/Justify/Line spacing/Rotation/Style/Width/Columns]:
Command:

As soon as I select the area for Mtext box, it goes back to the command menu without anything else happening.

For info, the working value of this session is mm so text height should be 200 mm. Tried with object snaps to define a zone but no better.

Note that The regular text command function will work fine:

Command: TEXT
Current text style: "Standard" Text height: 200 Annotative: No Justify: Left
Specify start point of text or [Justify/Style]:
Specify height <200>: 200
Specify rotation angle of text <0>:

I should also add that I do to change the language interface when updating ACAD. the default language of the platform is French but being from the old ACAD School, I still work with command lines typed on keyboard... 😉 it's like driving manual shift gear!

hope this helps!

JD

Hi Jean-Daniel,

What AutoCAD version do you use?
Does this happens in all of your drawings?
If the issue appears only in one specific drawing - can you share it here?

EDIT: I cannot reproduce such issue on my side, that is why I'm asking about drawing.

That's what I thought about: check the value of MTEXTED system variable:
https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2020/ENU/AutoC...

It should be - "Internal" or "." (null):

Command: MTEXTED
Enter new value for MTEXTED, or . for none <"">: Internal
Command:

Its weird because I tried this solution like 2 or 3 months ago, and it didn't work. Today, it didn't work the 1 and 2 times, but the third time was the charm for me, I don't understand, but happy :)))
