File Won't Open

Hi,

I was working on an AutoCAD drawing, finished, saved and closed out of the file. When I went to XREF it into a nother document, I noticed it would not work. I tried then to open it normally (both in AutoCAD itself and via my computer's hard drive) each time something flashes as if the file is about to open, but nothing appears. I am using the MAC version, and the preview shows up in my Finder, so it must be there but I can't access it at all. I've shut down AutoCAD completely but still no luck.

Any ideas? I'm using the  2013 student version for MACs and I attached the file if its helpful at all.

Thanks so much in advance,

Adena

I use Autocad for mac, and sometimes I can't get drawings to open. I tried running the recover but it still won't open. When I try to open the file AutoCad stops responding. Any ideas why this might be happening? I've attached the file below. Thank you!

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi Steve,

I opened your drawing without any problem, but have to say that you forgot to provide external reference - "1701 - Oschipok Residence - X-ref Plan.dwg", attached to your drawing. Plus I noticed that there is a lot of orphaned data (AcDgnLS objects) in your drawing:

You can tr to remove these objects with -WBLOCK command (use * option). In attached drawing I removed AcDgnLS objects.

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi Artiom,

I was able to open your drawing using RECOVER command, but looks like a big part of the drawing gone away.

Here is the recovery log:

Drawing recovery log.
Validating objects in the handle table.
Valid objects 2709 Invalid objects 5225
Validating objects completed.
Missing AcDbBlockTable
AcDs Error: read idx error
    Salvaged database from drawing.
Auditing Header
Auditing Tables
Auditing Entities Pass 1
Pass 1 800 objects audited
Auditing Entities Pass 2
Pass 2 800 objects audited
Duplicate name "*Paper_Space" in Block symbol table.
Auditing Blocks
 5 Blocks audited
Auditing AcDsRecords
Total errors found 1 fixed 1
Erased 0 objects
Opening an AutoCAD 2013/LT 2013 format file.
Regenerating model.

You can find recovered part of your drawing in the attachment.

My advice:

- Try to open .BAK file

- Or try to find autosaved copy of the drawing.

For future - set ISAVEPERCENT system variable to 0 (zero) and make backup copies of the important drawings more often.

Maxim

At 338kb it's not very big: I'm not sure how much content it would still have in it, this is all I got (the PREVIEW is not an actual indication of what is in the file):

Welcome to Autodesk Forums! Hi Janedon Mark, I tried to recover your drawing, but looks like I got the result that you will not be satisfied with. Information in the drawing was lost during recover process. Maxim

Anyone who is still getting this; drag corrupt file into a new drawing file, you'll lose your paper space information but will retrieve model space at least
