Dwg 2018 and Autocad MAC?

I have Autocad 2015 on my Macbook, and lately I'm getting more and more DWG files in 2018 format, which obviously wont open. Is there Autocad 2018 for Mac, and is a big enough improvement (besides compatibility with new format) to justify upgrading?

Hi,

>> Is there Autocad 2018 for Mac

Yes, available since 2 about months.

>> is a big enough improvement

Depends on what you need, for me e.g. PDFIMPORT is a great option I use quite often.

For my tasks, the biggest reason to upgrade windows version was support of high resolution display scaling (which is still kind of half baked), but it broke compatibility with Mac version.

can you clarify what you mean by it broke compatibility with Mac?

@Alfred.NESWADBA is right, you can download the Mac version of AutoCAD 2018 now, which will allow you to open 2018 files.

Hi @Anonymous,

File format changes can always be challenging.  Normally, for Windows customers that do not have the newer version of AutoCAD, I suggest using DWG Trueview to handle the conversion to the older format.

This doesn't work for Mac customers.  An option (if you are not yet ready to upgrade to the newest AutoCAD for Mac 2018) is to use the AutoCAD Mobile site. The site is not very intuitive but if you load up the 2018 drawing file you will be able to open it on the web. Once the file is displayed, you can save down to a prior version.  With all the browsers I have tested recently, the icons on the tool bar are invisible! Not very intuitive and I am trying to get this fixed.  At any rate, if you click on the gray bar just below the 'A' you will see the options to save in other formats.

If you want to explore AutoCAD for Mac 2018 you can get a 30 day trial here.  One of the biggest things to note about the new release is that it works on the new Mac OS High Sierra. I really like the significant improvements to the plotting features.

I have attached a Preview Guide for your use.

I do like the new feature of being able to migrate settings from your previous version.

Maybe not a big enough reason to upgrade but it's certainly a big help to those that do.
