Deinstall program before downloading new version? How to keep custom toolbars?

Hello all,

I am new to the forum and I have two questions that are semi related to each other....

My educational license for AutoCAD 2016 has expired and apparently I need to download the latest version.  I was hoping to get a new code, but that is not possible, correct?

Do I deinstall AutoCAD 2016 entirely before downloading and installing the new version?

Is there a way to retain my custom toolbar settings so that I do not have to painstakingly rebuild them?  If so, how do I do that?

Many thanks, Ryan

EDU licenses are only good for 3-years: you then need to sign up for a newer version if you are still in school. The thinking is simple: your potential employers don't want to hire you if you only know how to use old software.

There is no need to uninstall your old variant until after you install your new version and migrate the old content.

OK, understood, I'll go ahead and download the new version.   But, what do you mean by 'migrate old content'?  Are you referring to the custom toolbars I had asked about?  If so, how do you do this?  Thanks.

Hi Mr. Pieper,

Unfortunately you cannot migrate custom settings from 2016 version.
Starring with 2018 version AutoCAD for Mac can migrate custom settings from previous version, but migration feature supports only 2017 (and higher) AutoCAD for Mac versions.

Actually you can do the migration manually, but it is not a trivial process.
