Create a Chair Seat in AutoCAD for Mac

Hello guys,
I'm pretty new to AutoCAD and after taking a short course, I got an internship in a graphic company.
One of my latest assignment has been this wooden chair, which was sitting in the office for a while, basically it's an old 19th century wooden chair.
My boss gave me the assignment to make a 3d model of it in AutoCAD and also make it 12cm taller.
Now for the most part I was doing fine, the only thing really bothering me is the chair's sitting.
It's a rectangular shape with filleted edges and a curve going downwards towards the end of it.
I'm out of ideas, I tried drawing different polylines, but then have difficulty extruding them.
I'm attaching the chair and also my progress on it(the sitting model is wrong, I just made that to get one with other stuff).
Thanks for your help.

Hi @AmitKumarScuola,

I see that you are visiting as a new member to the AutoCAD for Mac forum. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

I apologize that I am a way from my Mac so I am providing my answer from AutoCAD for Windows but the process should be identical.  I suggest that a handful of cross sections of the seat should be made and then lofted together. I think you will then be able to control the angels and curves a bit easier.

BTW, Use CMD-SHIFT-4 to make a screencapture on the Mac 🙂

Thanks a lot John.

I've tried to loft before, but my actual issue is this end curvature of the seat.

I'm trying to make it so I can just union all the seat together at the end.

Thanks again.

Hi @Anonymous,

I tried this (without any measurements of course) by drawing a plan view of the seat pan.

Capture0.PNG

I then copied this up a distance in the Z direction.  I then modified the side view a bit (it is crude but it should display the principal).  I made sure the linework was JOINed.

Next I did a loft between the upper and lower linework. This gave me the edge of the seat pan. I used SURFPATCHto add a top and bottom to the seat. Next I used UNION to combine all the surfaces and then CONVTOSOLID to make a 3Dsolid.

Lastly, I used the FIlletEdge command to soften the radii on the edges.

Since the seat is actually not flat, one could actually create another curved solid and subtract it from the top of the seat to create the depression.
