Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi,
Please specify AutoCAD version and macOS version you have on your Mac.
Does this happens with all drawings, even newly created?
Have you tried to restart AutoCAD? - Use QUIT command and launch AutoCAD again.
Restart your Mac?

Post a video on your screen doing these things, let's watch you and your screen in action. You can install and use the free Autodesk Screencast app to create the video https://knowledge.autodesk.com/search-result/caas/simplecontent/content/download-autodesk-screencast...

edit: i just reset autocad to defaults and it works. i didn't know i could do that.

this is bizarre.

if i go and open the file at the pasted path it is the geometry. don't have this problem in 2016LT.

So, the issue is resolved by resetting AutoCAD?

actually it wasn't solved. it started doing it again. but i did find out what was causing it.

i disabled a clipboard management app called Copied and it works now.

so is this a bug with AutoCAD or Copied?

thanks again

Hi,

I tried Copied on my side and everything seems to work correctly in AutoCAD with default settings in Copied.

ahhhh, it's the "plain text mode" setting in Copied that is causing the issue i think.

I also tried with "plain text mode", but it doesn't affect AutoCAD in my case.
I have not tried PasteHelper - maybe it affects AutoCAD?

really!?! maybe it's a combination of different clipboard managers i have installed that you don't?

the only other apps i have that monitor the clipboard are Alfred and Unclutter. i just shutdown my computer, I'll have to check and see if anything else is mucking with the clipboard next startup.

over here it is definitely the "plain text" setting that triggers the issue.

do you have Alfred or Unclutter?

what is different about acad's copy/paste that is different than other apps?

glad your helping me, if you are like me, these things turn into a game, i love trying to figure out why.

>>>>do you have Alfred or Unclutter?

No, I haven't.

>>>>what is different about acad's copy/paste that is different than other apps?

Obviously, there are some differences, but I do not know exactly what is under the hood. For example if you will copy something from AutoCAD and will try to paste to some other application on Mac, you will get only the path (in plain text) to the temporary dwg file containing the objects you copied from AutoCAD. Maybe that is because there is no OLE technology in macOS, and only AutoCAD can recognize real DWG data in the link, saved in clipboard.
Clipboard managers can potentially destroy some bits in the data copied to clipboard from AutoCAD and as the result AutoCAD cannot recognize it correctly.
