Cannot select then perform action...???

Anonymous

All of a sudden I cannot select an object prior to keying in my action.

For instance, if I click on an object, then type "E-Enter" I have to select the object AGAIN and then click enter AGAIN.  Obviously you can normally select an object either before keying an action (and the action is performed on the selected object) or you can type the command first, then select the object.  All of a sudden CAD is forcing me to do the latter.

Any suggestions?  I have re-started, etc.

Josep,

From your screenshot I see you are using AutoCAD for Windows, but this is AutoCAD for Mac Forum.
Anyway, let's go further.
Try to disable all "Auto" and "Search" options in command line, then test command aliases.
What results do you get?

Maxim,
When I disabled all Auto and Search options and tried troubled command
aliases I got the same result: previously selected objects are removed from
the selection set.
I did not realize this was a Mac forum,I am sorry. If I cannot continue in
this forum, could you suggest me the proper one?

Thank you,

Josep

Josep,

AutoCAD for Windows Forum is here:

BTW, have you tried to Reset AutoCAD to defaults?

Maxim:

I did reset to defaults with no improvement. Now I am going to do a clean uninstall, and then I will reinstall AutoCAD.

You have been very patient and helpful.

Thanks a lot!

Can you check your keyboard also?
I mean if you have an opportunity, try to replace temporary keyboard on your machine, if it is laptop, then find external USB or Bluetooth keyboard.

That's very helpful. I don't get it, why does autocad do that? It randomly turns something off or switches something to different option. I wish it stayed the way i set it to be.

Hi Denis,

Usually this happens when AutoCAD crashes or hangs (and you need to Force Quit it).
But believe me or not, I had such issue only once in the whole time I use AutoCAD for Mac (7 years).

Are you trying to change the line color of a block?

Yes?

Then you have to double click on the block first to get into the

block editor; then you can change the color of the block's line in

the block editor only through it's property dialogue box.

Out of curiosity, how would one accomplish the same change to without using the typed 'PICKFIRST' command? In other words, can this variable be set through the user-interface by pointing and clicking in Workspace Customization or Options?

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi Alex,

Although there is no UI element for such customization, but here is what might help:

- set PICKFIRST=0 at the command prompt

- draw line

- select it and hit Delete key on keyboard

- you should see this alert:2019-04-19_07-12-23.png

Check "Always perform.." and pick on YES.
