Batchplot to PDF problems, batchplot to printer works fine.

Hi All,

This is driving me nuts.  I am using AutoCAD LT on a mac at work.  I can batchplot to the office's printer just fine, but when I try to batchplot to pdf, it stops - usually after the second or third page.  No error message.  Nothing.  Just stops.  It does not even create a pdf with the first page or two it does run through.  When I open each page individually and go through the regular plot dialog, I can print to pdf no problem.

I'm thoroughly stumped.  Any ideas?

Thanks!

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

What settings do you have in Batch Publish dialog (advanced section)? Do you save PDF to the default location or you changed it? Do you print to single multipage PDF or to individual PDF per Layout?

HI MARSS,

I was actually just running through testing different combinations of all those things you've mentioned. I think it is a paper size problem. We have 2 page setups - a 24x36, and a half size that we can print at the office on 11x17. No matter what the advanced settings, I cannot batchplot to PDF at the full 24 x 36 size. I can batchplot to pdf at the 11x17 half size (which makes sense considering I can plot to the printer at that size as well).

Any ideas on how to fix the larger size? Anything we submit officially for our projects has to be at full scale - the 11x17 is mostly just for in house use.

Thanks,

Hi lk,

Where do you select 24x36 page size?
Is it one of the predefined for your current printer (plotter) sizes? Or you created custom paper size yourself?
Do you create named Page Setup via Page Setup Manager? Or you change paper size "on the fly"?
I'd recommend you to create named page setup before you Batch publish to PDF an use it in Batch Publish dialog.

See attached screenshots.

Someone who worked here before my time created the page setups.  I don't really know anything about the specifics.  When I go through the batchplot dialog, there is the option to assign the pagesetup in that dialog.  When I go through the regular print dialog (just for an individual page) even though the page is already set to 24 x 36 I still have to change the papersize and orientation (its default is letter, portrait).

To create named Page Setup which you can use on your Mac you need to use Page Setup Manager from File menu.

In Page Setup Manager dialog you click on "+" button, give it the name, select page setup to start from, clicking on Continue will open Page Setup dialog - it is the same as you can open from Print dialog, but settings you make here will be stored in the drawing.

Make adjustments here - select paper size, plot style table, what to print, etc. If you never used this dialog you need to expand it with small round button on the bottom right - you will see all additional settings.

After you pick on OK, page setup is ready for use. Select its name in the list of page setups in Page Setup Manager window, than use "gear" menu to set page setup you created as current for the Layout.

From now if you will open Print dialog all settings will be untouched. When you batch publish the current page setup will be selected as default.

Awesome! That seems to have fixed it. Thanks for guidance. This will be a huge relief to not have to do it page by page!
