AutoCAD 2018 for Mac hotfix failed and erased nonstandard apple apps

I installed or tried to install the Autocad 2018 (it failed) for Mac hot fix and it erased any extra Apps that are not standard Apple Apps in my Application folder along with Autocad 2018..... WTF seriously..... VMware Fusion, DWG Maker, Autocad 2018, iMovie, Numbers, Pages all gone!!! Why would it even do that??? Is there a disgruntled Autodesk employee?

Which way it failed? Did you get any alerts? Can you describe in more details what happened?

I cannot believe AutoCAD installer erased all apps from Application folder on your Mac. Are you absolutely sure?

1000%. Everything was working then I installed the hot fix and it basically sent my Mac back to startup apps....I don't use too many apps on my Mac. Literally the ones I mentioned above. The only thing I did was install the hot fix. I for sure had Autocad for Mac on my Mac because the installer had to close it. Also I got the update from inside Autocad.

It was installing and got to the last step and said the install failed ( probably because it deleted Autocad for Mac...).

I think it is not AutoCAD installer "work".
You need to try to use Disk Utility to check your Mac drive.
Do you have Time Machine backup (or other type of full system backup, for example CCC) of your system?

Hi @betazero,

This is terrible. I just applied the new update and had no issues.  I don't think the installer touches any of these items so this very perplexing.

Do you have all of your system backed up (TimeMachine perhaps)?  This is likely to get you back up and running but I would like to get a better idea of what happened during the installation. Have you checked to see if some of this might have been "moved" to iCloud or marked as hidden?

Have you browsed to your application folder to manually check for the apps?

Open Console window(search console in splotlight to get it) > in the navigation bar on the left, select /var/log, right click it and select Reveal in Finder > in the Finder window, find the install.log file

I disagree. This is a brand new computer and It wiped out down to when my computer was just turned on right after installing and failing at the 2018.1 update. There is some kind of bug in the installer is what I think. Not sure how ore why there would be something that does this.

No I don't use any backup system like Time machine etc. My files are in Dropbox which handles that. I believe in keeping it simple and you have fewer problems.

Did the Disk Utility thing anyways( no problems found) If it was a disk problem it would not have picked only installed apps:

Verifying file system.
Volume could not be unmounted.
Using live mode.
Performing fsck_apfs -n -l -x /dev/rdisk1s1
Checking volume.
Checking the container superblock.
Checking the EFI jumpstart record.
Checking the space manager.
Checking the object map.
Checking the APFS volume superblock.
Checking the object map.
Checking the fsroot tree.
Checking the snapshot metadata tree.
Checking the extent ref tree.
Checking the snapshots.
Verifying allocated space.
The volume /dev/rdisk1s1 appears to be OK.
File system check exit code is 0.
Restoring the original state found as mounted.
Operation successful.

Sorry I no longer have it. It did a great job of deleting itself and Autocad too. I am not going to be reinstalling Autocad because I lost like an half hour reinstalling apps. It wasn't the end of the world but it sure was a surprise.

I can tell you for sure I downloaded it today and the prompt to download it popped up in Autocad.

We have found the issue in the install script, and are working on fix.

I just want to check with you that, did you put the AutoCAD 2018.app directly in the /Applications/ folder? Normally, it should be installed in /Applications/Autodesk/AutoCAD 2018/ folder.

Update:

The issue has been fixed. The 2018.1 installer is already updated.

The issue happens in a rare scenario, and the impact is in the installation process. The issue does not impact the files or functionality of AutoCAD if the installation is successful. There is no difference of the AutoCAD 2018.1 upgraded from the original installer or the new installer.
