Rename Block Preview

I think it would be helpful to have a block preview in the Rename dialog box. Oftentimes there are cryptically/randomly named blocks showing up in the drawing block list. This would aid in more appropriately renaming blocks. Thanks!

In Electrical, the block name is part of how the data management works.

If you rename the blocks, you will break how the program works in a big way with no chance of recovery.

ACADE relies on the block name for indicating the orientation, component family and if it is a child or parent.

Terminals have a separate naming scheme and so do things like the source/destination arrows, PLC's and so on.

Once a block is inserted, the name is added to the scratch database by the Insert Component command.

This then allows tracking of things like wire connection, all the reports, cross referencing and everything else the program offers.

Those cryptic/randomly named blocks are named according to the naming convention that ACADE uses and you will find that ALL the blocks provided by ACADE match between the different libraries. so a NO open relay contact would have the same name (HCR2 or VCR21) in each library installed.

The first character is the orientation (Horizontal or Vertical)

The next two characters are the family according to the agreed upon international standards. CR is for Control Relays for example.

The fourth character is for the parent or child. Parents for a relay are the Coil while the children are the contacts.

The fifth character is 1 for a NO contact and 2 for a NC contact. If the block is not a contact then the character is a '_'.

From there, it really depends on the block. For custom blocks, I set the first 5 characters according to the standards and then add a description to the name. For example, I might name a block 'HCR21NO Contact - Late Break' and it's vertical counterpart as 'VCR21NO Contact - Late Break'.

For more information on the naming conventions, go to your Help and do a search for 'Symbol Naming Conventions'.

This will give a lot more information.
