Option to leave open current drawing when creating new one or surfing

Currently in ACADE 2017 and previous, when the user tries to create a new drawing or when surfing to a parent or child object, the current drawing will automatically close. This may be beneficial to some, however it is annoying to others. I suggest that there is a setting that can be changed so that the desired behavior is always used for the user or a popup option that asks the user if they want to close the current drawing.

I'd like to add that if there's a popup to ask whether the active drawing should be closed, it should include the 'Don't show me this again' option.

Thanks vladop, I've tested the hold shift down for new drawing and surfing and can confirm that it works on both. However, I would like to see it made more obvious and also an option to have this as default, something similar to what jseefdrumr mentioned would work well.

My thanks also vladop. The first thing I did this morning was try to make new drawings with this trick. I think that this functionality should definitely be made a little more obvious to the user, though.

Seems like I should check in on Nate's blog more often too, lol.

Also, it's worth pointing out that this work works with the NEXT and PREVIOUS arrows for moving between project drawings.

We shouldn't have to hold the SHIFT key down as we Surf just to make Surfing behave properly in an "MDI" mode rather than mimicking the 90's "SDI" single document mode. MDI mode surfing really needs to be the DEFAULT / only behavior while Surfing. Autodesk, please let go of SDI. This is an easy fix in the software... it's one line of code that needs adjustment. Please see my email thread from several years back regarding this subject.
