Multiple Layouts

Multiple Layouts

Can we change the way ACADE deals with layouts such that it easily supports multiple layouts in a drawing or at the very least some way of splitting large panel drawings over several title borders.

If you consider a large panel layout, it s desirable to have multiple views of that panel but there may not be room on a single layout so you'll need multiple borders or layouts.

However ACADE currently does not support multiple layouts whilst updating borders.

Could ACADE have the facility to have views on one page which are derived from another page perhaps?  This way extra detail drawings could be put on subsequent pages and 'linked' back therefore solve the problem with borders and page numbers.

Admittedly, the issue is that of multiple borders in a single drawing and how you deal with the page numbering etc and there are some workarounds out there and good ideas from users BUT this should not be a workaround as it creates extra work and doesn't necessarily mean it gets updated automatically...

A lot of client document management systems are set up for "one DWG file - one drawing" so I would prefer a solution which works with the existing single-layout structure, even if it gets a bit more complex.

In regards to having views from one dwg file showing in a separate dwg file, that already exists within the base ACAD that Electrical is added to.

This means that the functionality already exists within ACADE for this.

Click on 'Insert' on the Menu Bar.

Select 'DWG References' or 'External References' from the drop down menu.

Follow the prompts from there to insert the required dwg file.

The one thing I am not sure on is whether or not the Electrical functions will count any ACADE smart blocks that are in the dwg that references the first.

Is it possible to configure two or more dwg to represent one footprint?

I'm asking beucause sometimes we need to show two views for the same component, for example, the front view and the side view for representates components.

Best regards.

@Icemanau agreed this feature already exists however I was aiming more of being able to add a viewport of another drawing without having to insert that drawing in to paperspace in order to create a view.....

The danger with this approach is if the panel layout changes, you have to go through and make sure any subsequent sheets are up to date otherwise you are likely to have sheets all out of sync with each other.

The linked xref method does work but you do have to open each linked drawing for the view to be updated.
