The Collision Avoidance function is not perfect. I do not rely on it. It requires a specific workflow. If you start a wire from a component, collision avoidance doesn't engage, but auto-routing does engage. However auto-routing has an issue staying on the grid. Notice that the wire is properly trimmed as it passes through -1S4.1 but it is not on the grid. This also happens in situations where we branch off from a wire connection that already has a wire connected. The 2nd wire branches off at a 45 degree angle nicely, but it is off the grid.
Collision avoidance does function if you begin a wire at the end of an existing wire segment, as shown in the attached screen capture. It would be nice if collision avoidance was available even if we start a wire at a component, such as the scenario shown in the attached screen captures.
Interestingly, when you start a wire from an existing wire segment and press TAB to disable collision avoidance, the wire travels precisely through the switch, on the grid, as shown in the attached screen capture.
